Weight gain??
Hello Everyone!! I have a question.......
I got down to 117 lbs (too skinny) I felt really bad!! Well.... I just weighed and.... I weigh 145 lbs at 5'4''! (A little gain was cool) but, I was just wondering if anyone else has had the surgery for more than 2 years and how well have you/they done keeping the weight off?? Is the gain of 20 + pounds in about 4 months normal?? Do I need to be concerned?? Size 4-6 to 8-10? I noticed I can eat more, eat sugar containing foods, and drink pop (with ice). Do you know anyone/or have you gained any or all their weight back?! I would really LOVE to hear from anyone who is 5 + years post-op too. Just a little concerned, thanks!!
Alisha,
I'm struggling with weight gain right now too. Last fall I discovered I could tolerate sugar, which has been my demise!! I am up 15 lbs. beyond my "comfort range" (I'm at 160, and was keeping myself between 140 - 145 quite successfully...I'm 5'8"). (I too had gotten down below goal (136)at one point and had to gain a few to look healthier.) I have been "stress eating", which I MUST get under control before it destroys me....an old problem I've allowed to creep up on me. I've lost a couple pounds this week, so I feel better about myself. Besides treats, I need to watch my portions. I do not vomit...never have since surgery...and I can eat quite a bit, which isn't good!
I guess we are now to the hard part! Self-control is something I have always struggled with, but the prize of a slim body is not something I am not willing to give up, so I'm fighting back!! Wanta join the fight with me?!
By the way, I have heard of/know of people who have gained all their weight back. It really is just a tool, and we must use it! One person I know of can't handle sugar at all, but he runs a pizza parlor and eats all day long...and is morbidly obese again!
Good Luck to you. If you are interested in "teaming up" to support each other back down to goal, e-mail me!!!

Hi, I think it is very common to gain 15-20 lbs. So far, almost EVERYONE I have spoke to that is more than 2 years out, has gained in this range. Its where the body is comfortable. A couple friends of mine on another site are trying something new they heard of. They are doubling the amount of protein they usually do in a day. Have heard good things about it jumpstarting the loss again. After 2+ years, I imagine our pouches have stretched and we can hold more. Just make sure you are stopping when you get to the full point, and try to make good choices (hard, I know). Can I ask what your surgery was and your starting weight. I find that most DS'ers gain more than an RNY'er does. Good luck and I hope I helped. I am not 5 years out, but I wanted to offer some help.

Hello,
I am 8 years post op. Before surgery i was 304pds, 4 yrs after surgery I was 134pds now 8 yrs later I am 194pds. I can eat anything I want and it has brought me back to my original appiate. I am not proud and very discouraged. I am now considering a revision. Try and get back to protein shakes and alot of water. Exercise, and work hard for the body you wanted for so long. Good luck.
