I am due to see my surgeon for a 1 year check up. We usually just have a [very large - 50+ post ops from all ranges of the journey] group meeting and discuss how things are going with a PA serving as mediator. Then we are weighed and that is it. Never a 1 on 1 thing with the surgeon. It is a 4 hour drive 1 way and a stay over night for me to see them. I am doing good and my pcm takes care of all of my after care blood work etc... Should I go to the [surgeon's] "support group meeting"? I am enclined to blow it off and not go. Do you think i will miss a milestone on my journey... closure... Just wondering what ya'll would do. I think it depends on of you want a little getaway or not. If I was feeling like I needed to get 'out of dodge' for a while, I'd go. If you feel like you're doing just fine, don't go. Maybe you should go just so that you can have your "official" one year visit to your surgeon. But, it would probably be the last time I'd go. I am lucky that my surgeon practices right here in my home town (in fact, I work at the hospital where he does the surgery). Let us know what you decide. Pam

My surgeon is thousands of miles away. He told me that because I check in monthly with my weight and how I feel, to just call his office to send my docs office here locally the blood work that needs to be done. He's callin' it good!

Hi Judy I'm with Pam. If you just want a get-away, go for it(although I could think of a much better place I would rather be). If you're being taken care of by your PCP, then I wouldn't worry about it. I don't think that I would like the way that he does it as a group, anyway. There's no one on one with your surgeon. What ever you decide, HAPPY 1 YEAR ANNIVERSARY!!! Your WL Buddy, Jane
