Hey Guys,
Did/does anyone have an attitude with the people who didn't "SEE" us before our surgery, but can "SEE" us now that we're thin?
I sure did! I guess it was a phase, but I would get really angry with people who couldn't see me when I was 362lbs., but can see me now! I forgive them. Your WL Buddy, Jane
Jane,
I know what you mean....and I find it annoying. I wish I knew how to respond to these people. I man is someone I work with, and now he's friendly, whereas before he wouldn't even look at me. On the other hand though...and I hate to admit it...but over the weekend I went somewhere and there was a person who was super morbidly obese and I found myself glancing and looking away......obviously a different reaction than to a "normal" person. I was shocked with myself. I now feel bad for MO people and just want to tell them about WLS, but don't want to hurt anyone either. Anyway, I'm seeing "the other side of the coin", and wonder how many other people used to "feel sorry" for me!! No wonder they're so complimentary now!!

Very seldom do I hear negatives although my mother (86) says I need to gain some weight. I do hear some odd things though as easily share my RNY experience with almost everyone. A woman who visited my web site posted the following in my guest book that pretty much sums up the negatives of the people who just don't "get it."

"I guess I'm confused why you have to have surgery before you begin to eat properly. Why don't you eat properly first. Why would you want to be forced to eat properly because now you are unable to digest food properly? I don't understand your logic."

As far as attention goes, who the heck looks at guys? : )
