Re-introducing myself!

Happy Easter to all of you! I'm struggling a little bit with the Easter Holiday due to all of the Easter candy out there and my feelings about it. It's not as though I'm craving any one thing, but I have been thinking about it. This is new for me post-op! Prior to surgery I thought I'd be miserable after my wls... always craving sweets and lots of food. I was so happy to find that was NOT true! I am satisfied with the amounts I eat, and so far I haven't been interested in much else other than good, nutritious food. Until now. I just bought (today) some expensive European sugar-free chocolate. I want to try to re-introduce sweets into my post-op diet. I'm a little scared. I'm afraid I'll like them too much, or it'll lead to cravings or a mini-binge or something. How about all of you? Do you eat sugar-free sweets? As snacks? As part of a meal? Catherine

Hi Catherine: I eat sugar-free popsicles and ice cream almost everyday. I have eatten the sf candy by Russell Stover, it is really good. The only thing is it gives me terrible gas. I mean horrible. I told my Dr. about it, and she said that I needed to be careful eatting any sf candy that was sweetened with anything ending in "ol". She said it has a laxative base. Just don't eat much at one time and it probably won't affect you. I know if I eat more than 2 Russell Stover's peppermint patties they tear my stomach up bad. I hope you do better with your candy, than I did with mine. Well, enjoy your weekend, and Happy Easter!!! Jan R. -73

Yes, I have also tried sugar free and fat free ice cream --tasted great--but gave me terrible gas pain!! Russle Stover and Hershey both have some good sugar free chocolate out on the market--but --when I do eat this I limit myself to one piece--more and I get sick to my stomach---but it does take care of my sweet tooth. any s/f chocolate will give you the "runs" if you eat too much at one time. I love the Russell Stover peppermint patties, but limit myself to one and not every day. Russell Stover also has jelly beans flavored like the "jelly bellies" and they are really good. I have to be careful that I dont eat too many of them. I make a really good dessert with s/f angel food cake crumbled then top with a mixture of jello, cool whip ,cream cheese and 2 TBs of lemon juice. This really takes care of my sweet tooth. Also Murray cookies are pretty good and they are sugar-free. Since the beginning I have been drinking s/f hot chocolate with a scoop of protein in it, so I really did not have that choc. craving. Catherine, Come over here and let me smack you upside the head! Why do you want to mess up a good thing by eating something that is NOT good for you? There is a direct connection between people who encourage the development of a "sweet taste" and a significant regain within five years of surgery. There's NOTHING that tastes as good as losing 107 lbs in less than six months feels. Please reconsider. Sandra
