My Weight Loss is Very SLOW
Hi All,
I am down 64 pounds in 5 months and I am so disgusted. I know that we each loose differently, but I am just not happy with the the way that I am loosing. I sometimes find myself just plain ole regretting I had the surgery. Then other times I am like ok this is cool. I am so discouraged at times.
I am so aware that without this surgery i would not have loss the 64 pounds, but I just feel that I should have loss more by now. I eat right I exercise. I drink my water and get in my protein, but my weight loss is so slow. I am do to go to the doctors on this coming Friday and i do not wanna go, because I am ashamed and embarrassed that I have not loss more. Am I crazy or what? Thanks for listening.
Adrienne
Yes Adrienne, I think you are crazy! LOL No, really. We do all lose it differently and it WILL come off for you too. Are you excercising? I have really noticed the weight starting to come off rapidly since I started working out 20 minutes every day. I never did any type of excercise before so my body must be going crazy now while I work off the fat. Keep up the good work and don't let yourself get discouraged!

You might be in the starvation mode. You might lose better if you added some good carbs like fruit and veggies. I personally think we dont need protien shakes after the first month. In my opinion you lose better eating real food. I get my protien from eggs, cheese, poultry, beef, pork. skim milk. I had lap RNY oct 1 03 and have lost 85 pounds. I have gone from size 52 pants to size 38. My shirt size has gone from 3X to large.
I cant exercise much because I have a bad heart, so I am happy with my weight loss. I just wish I felt better. I guess my heart failure is acting up again, it makes me very tired.
I think you're weight loss is awesome David! I hope you are feeling better though with your heart.
My doctor told me to eat more protein than take the shakes so I'm not really even drinking them anymore. I eat 4-5 times a day and just make sure there is protein in whatever I'm eating. I don't count calories because I'm just too lazy. =)

David,
I am glad you are losing so fast. (Men have it much easier than women, darn it.) Since you are a man, you needed a minimum of 80 grams of protein a day to maintain your body BEFORE this surgery. Since a major part of this surgery is the malabsorption, you don't absorb all of the nutrients from your food anyway so your protein minimum must be raised to compensate. After this surgery it is physically impossible to eat enough food to get that much protein. A high quality blended whey protein will give you the needed nutrition your body craves. Doesn't mean you don't eat food too...of course you do. But there's no need to worry about meeting your minimum requirements anymore because you know you are getting it via protein suppliments.
Why do you think protein isn't needed after the first month?
Sandra
I Sandra,
I do not understand why protein supplements would not be needed after the first month either. I think they are great. i waited so long to start just to make sure that I could eat the required amounts, but I think the supplements are vital. Because when I have those bouts of not being able to or wanting to eat the supplements come in handy. i will never stop those.

Thanks for the response David. It is a given men loose faster, my husband had his surgery 6 weeks agao and he has loos 60 pounds already, so you men loose much faster. As far as protein shakes go,. I never took them in my first 6 to 8 weeks because I wanted to teach myself how to eat my protein, but now I can not seem to eat, So i take the protein shakes when i am out and about because I was not eating at all when i was out, so I need to get something in because i have no appetite.

Lady, I'm not sure at what weight you started out at. I'm also not sure what type of foods you eat. Can you give me an idea? Perhaps I might have some insight then.
I'm down 78 pounds and think it's really excellent! So don't be too upset about 64 pounds. I can't think of any diet I've been on when I've lost that amount of weight in that time.
Buck up camper! It's ALL GOOD! Just think of how much better you feel RIGHT NOW! That's got to be some great motiviation!
I'm proud of your accomplishment so far! Keep up the good work. Oh and YES, you're CRAZY GIRL
Thanks for the response Denise. I started out weighing 336. I am now 271 so actually that is 65 pounds. I had a lot of trouble about my 3 to 4 th month out because I was on a Soy based protein, which we do not absorb well, so everything I thought i was doing right i was actually doing wrong. I was gaining and loosing hair. So i had to stop all of the Soy stuff and do the whey protein.
I get in at least 2 protein drinks a day and I eat my chicken and fish and cheese and my vegetables. I only do splenda and i do veggies and some fruit. I do the Hood carb Count down milk. I am always watching my intake amount. I never eat until i am full.
I have gone from a 32 to a 20 and I do not exercise regularly. Thats about it.
