How much can you eat now???
I am overdoing it I think. I eat about 1 cup in all... tonight's supper was a small chicken thigh, 1/2 medium potatoe, 1/4 cup Green beans and 1 broccoli spear. Then 1 hour later 1/16 of a 9" pie - cheesecake with strawberries in glaze and a squirt of whipped topping. What do ya'll think? To much? I don't know. It seems like a lot, but when i write it down not much at all... hmmm. Let me know what your able to eat now. Thanks

I too am able to eat much more now than I did even a month ago. I find though it is very food related. For instance a small grilled chicken breast will fill me up much quicker than say a cup of soup, small salad and some crackers. I went to a party this weekend and had about 1/4 cup of salmon, 1/4 cup mashed potatoes, 1/4 cup of slaw plus a couple of cheese and crackers. I was amazed I could eat this much, but then remembered it was over about an hour time...so.... What I am seeing now though is I am getting hungry much quicker. Lunch does not hold me till dinner so I find I am grabbing a snack around 3-4pm. Tyring to keep the snack healthly, but the old hunger demon is coming back!
I find I can eat more now as well. So... to keep my weight loss going I've decided to switch tactics. I was eating 3/4 cup food 3x a day as per my doctor's instructions. However, I was starting to get quite hungry between lunch and dinner. In addition, I have lost so much hair! I have tried to eat as much protein as possible, but it's not enough. I took a tip from Sandra (a member here) and have just started drinking a protein shake for breakfast, 1/2 cup food at noon, 1/2 cup food at 3pm or 4pm, 1/2 cup food at dinner, and another protein shake in the evening. I try to eat good protein, and fill in with veggies or a little fruit. I have not tried anything with real sugar since my surgery. The closest I've come to sweets is a protein bar. I drink the ProPlete Gold protein shake and the flavors are so good... they really do satisfy my sweet cravings. I don't get hungry now at all. I've lost 96 lbs. and I want to keep going. I still have 80 lbs. left to go to reach my personal goal. I was worried about stretching out my pouch-- jeez, I sound like a marsupial!
Hi Judy! That seems like an awful lot to me, however, I don't know how much you ate before your surgery so maybe it's a great feat. As my surgeon told me, the surgery is also about making lifestyle changes, not to see how much you can eat after the reduction. I, personally, would have left out the potato and pie. You don't need them. Eat your protein first, as much as you can, and then eat the vegetables. Drink lots of water in between. It's been 5 months and 87 pounds since my surgery. For example, I am able to eat about a 1/4 cup of cottage cheese or a small protein shake (6 to 8 ounces) in the morning. In the afternoon, (late noon) a small tuna or chicken or taco salad, about a 1/2 cup at most, or a 1/2 cup of soup. By the evening I am still full and will often finish my luncheon salad if I can fit it. I have cut out any snacking and have chosen to eliminate carbs almost altogether. You know though, we are all different, and as long as you are losing weight and making healthy choices, you'll be successful.

When I read how much others can eat who had the surgery the same time I did, I feel like a freak! I'm still not able to eat much. This was my whole food list for yesterday: 8 oz Crystal Light mixed with unflavored Unjury protein powder, one handful trail mix, 2 grilled shrimp, one bite of chili, 2 french fries. And I threw up the dinner, so that doesn't really count as food intake (that was the shrimp, chili and fries.) That's pretty much usual for me a day. I try to drink as much as I can, but even that makes me nauseous. I throw up just about everything (I've had 3 strictures and just had a CAT scan yesterday, so the doc is working on my problem.) But still, I miss eating!

Judy,
I'm not as concerned about the amount as much as I am the content. Why the heck are you eating cheesecake? The sugar in it should make you dump and it certainly does nothing to promote your weight loss or change in dietary habits.
When you research the habits of high successful long time post-ops, you learn that most subscribe to the 1/2 cup philosophy at our stage.
Also remember...just because you CAN eat more now doesn't mean you SHOULD.
