Two Week Plateau
Hello to everyone. I just wanted to vent today. I have not LOST ONE POUND in two weeks!!!! As a matter of fact, I have strangely put on 2 pounds I am so upset about it. To top it off, all last week I had protein drinks for breakfast and salad for lunch and dinner and those things did not jump start my weight loss at all. Not to mention, I was still working out. Has anyone else experienced a plateau at four months post-op? If so, what did you do to jump start the weight loss?
Hi Cherry,
My weight loss will stall for 7-10 days, then pick back up again for 2-3 weeks, then stall again. I think it has something to do with my periods but more likely has to do with my lousy protein intake! When I start to get concerned I cut carbs, up protein and make double sure I'm getting my water. Same stuff that we all know to do now. It's frustrating sometimes, but it will kick in again soon. So keep the faith!!!

Hi Cherry, I have read alot on the boards that if we cut out calorie intake back too much then our bodies think we are starving and hold onto the weight. This is a strange thing but I have read about it alot. So I would think maybe kicking up the aerobic exercise a bit to start your engine burning more. I know that whenever I exercise harder or longer I see those pounds come off. Many blessings to you on your journey. Congrats on your success so far.
My last plateau lasted about 2 weeks also and I only lost 1 lb. Then one day I got on the scale and it was 3 lbs lighter than the day before. I think maybe due to the time of the month when we are retaining water. I noticed I'll go days w/ no weight loss and then all of a sudden it starts dropping again. Go figure!

Hi Cherry. I had my surgery 3 days after you on 10/23 and I have lost 57 pounds so far. Anyway, I had a plateau that lasted from Thanksgiving to almost New Years. I stayed 233 for almost that whole time - going up and down the same couple of pounds for weeks. Anyway, after the first of the year it started dropping off and I now am 212, but have been stalled here for about 2 weeks. What I think is that our bodies will drop a lot of weight, but then stop to readjust itself (at least that's what I hear from my doctor and on the boards). Just think, if we always lost a pound a day for instance, that would be 30 pounds a month - now that would be unhealthy for an extended period of time.
I also agree that "that time of the month" is not our friend because all of my friends who have had the surgery believe that they do not lose weight during this time.
Hope this is helpful - keep up the good work.
Toni,
Thanks for the feed back, it really helps. I see that you are really doing well. I guess I got a little spoiled. I've lost a total of 68 pounds and now I'm approaching my 5th month come this Saturday and I haven't lost anything for the month so far. I guess it's my turn for the weight loss to stall. Anyway, keep up the great work.
Sincerely,
Cherry
