2 months Post-op and only one tiny problem
Just want to pass along how I spend my Friday evening. I ate two bites of a hamburger on Thursday night at 10 pm, and had terrible "indigestion" for the next 16 hours. I called my surgeon's nurse at 2:30 pm from work, and told her I was hurting pretty badly. She told me to go to the ER because I most likely had a blockage. Welllll, it was absolutely awful. By the time I got to the ER, I couldn't even swallow my own saliva! I ended up having to be anesthetized and have a procedure by a GI doctor to remove the blockage. The bread had wrapped around the meat and blocked my opening to my small intestine. Everything I swallowed then backed up. I will never eat white bread with meat again as long as I live! This was an excruciatingly painful lesson to learn and I just wanted to pass it on to others. White bread can form "bread balls" in your pouch and block the new opening to the small intestine. The pain got to the point of approximately 9 on a scale of 1 to 10 with 10 being the worst. My advice is: JUST SAY NO TO WHITE BREAD! LOL.
Dorita, I feel your pain. I took a bit - one lousy bit of bread one day because it was calling me I tell you and then I was in pain. The only lucky part is that I get an instant reaction to that sort of thing and I threw up and the pain was mostly gone. My doc said not bread or red meat for 6 months. I now know why. Good luck and glad to hear this is all behind you!

Dorita, I can TOTALLY relate to problems with bread! My doctor warned me about it, but on Thanksgiving day, I didn't even THINK about dressing being made of torn-up pieces of - what? - BREAD! DUH! *lol* I threw up no less than three times during dinner. I'm just glad I was able TO get it up! I'm so sorry you had to learn such a hard lesson such an awful way! Oh, and btw - it's not just white bread, either! I eat multigrain or wheat bread, and I find if I take the tiniest little bites and chew the dog out of them, I do ok. However, if I overdo it, it tears me up just as badly as white bread. So my advice? Avoid bread altogether! And believe me, that's a difficult statement to make, coming from a lifelong bread lover who used to eat the crust off 3 or 4 slices of white bread, mush the bread into a big ball, and eat it like that! *lol* Way I look at it? It's much better to be getting healthier and healthier every day!!!
Take care, and good luck!
