Hi Ladies, I'm 6 weeks out, and my period is doing funky stuff! I was wondering if anyone else has been off schedual? Pre-op I was pretty regular, and exspected to be a little late after the surgery, and was by just 2 days. Well, now I'm 8 days late! Should I be worried?!? I'm trying to not freak out here... I so know this is NOT the time to get preg!! :::Deep Breath:: I've been feeling my cramps for about 2 weeks... and I don't notice any of the early signs that I had with my preg pre-op, but just the same... I'm starting to wonder? Maybe it's the stress of the holidays? So anyway- how is this issue going for you? I'm really curious! Thanks in advance! ~Jessica

I am 5 weeks post-op and I just got off my period. It was also late by 2 wks and was very funky. 2 weeks before I also had cramps and the feeling of starting. I thought that maybe because of all the changes to my body and the stress of surgery and holidays that I wouldn't start but I finally did. I wouldn't worry yet.

Hi Jessica, I too am 6 weeks out. I actually started my period the day of surgery. I was about 10 days late for my next one after surgery. I am sure everything is ok, as long as you are using protection.

Jessica, I would put your mind at ease and take a test. Being stressed out can make your period come late so relieve the stress, take the test, and then you can relax. Also what form of birth control are you using? I was told that I could not take the pill because it lowers its effective rate. Good Luck, Tanya

My cycle has been heavier than normal since the surgery and also not as regular. Pre-op, my cycle would last about 3-4 days and now it is a good 7-8 days. Hope this passes soon. But I concur with a previous post, buy a little test thingy and get that peace of mind. When I was married, I would do it every month practically birth control or not because I was so freaked out about getting pregnant. As far as birth control, my Dr. said to not take hormones for the first year after surgery. I don't remember the reason for this...but I do remember that they wanted you to stop taking the pill BEFORE because it does not promote healing. For this reason, you will find a lot of women will get pregnant after having surgery - and well they look better, are healthier and are well, fertile!

Thanks for all your responces ladies... Well, no I still haven't started.. but I did take a test today and it was neg- so I'm asuming all is good, just late. As far as BC, we are using condoms because I too was told not to trust/use the pill. I am planning on having an IUD put in next month. I'm so leary of bc because we got preg on our wedding night, on the pill and condoms... plus it was less then a week after my period had ended. Yikes! I'd love to have another baby... just not right now. I know that you all know what I mean! OK- That's all for now. Thank you again! ~Jessica

Hi Jessica I had surgery on 10/28 and was due to get my period November 4. Well, I never did get a period that month -- But I did get my December period. I think my body just absorbed the other one. Sharon

Hi Jessica! I had my surgery on October 22nd and got my period 4 days later on the 26th. Now here it is, the 13th, and I'm starting another one! In my case, my surgeon had me go off my birth control pills for one month prior to surgery (something about blood clot prevention). Now I'm at the point in my pills where I'd usually get my period (last week of the pack), so I guess my body is just getting back on track even though my period is a little early. I also think that our rapid weight loss (I'm already down somewhere between 55lbs and 60 lbs...WHOOOOHOOO!! *l*) has a lot to do with how our periods regulate themselves in the beginning, too. Our bodies are adjusting to MAJOR surgery, and surely our hormones are out of whack, too, what with trying to return to normal from a life of being out-of-control as a consequence of morbid obesity. So I wouldn't worry about it. Some of us are going to be early, while others of us are going to be late. Just depends on our individual bodies. Please keep us informed, though, as to how you're doing! Love and prayers, Amy, 6-weeks post-op, Open RNY

Don't worry Jessica. My GYN told me to expect my period to do weird stuff. I got my period right after surgery 10/22/03 and then in 11/03 however I didn't get it at all in 12/03 and I'm not prego. My doctor explained that our body is going through major changes so just hang in there. I'm sure everything is O.K.
