My Dr. says I need to be eating 6 x a day. I am lucky if I get in 3 cups a day. as far a protine goes I don't get in a whole lot I am told I need to get 68g per day. I do not like the shakes. I use not to be so pickey but now so many things upset my stomach. Any one have any suggestions.

Unless I am drinking soup I am not able to eat more than 3-5 tablespoons of anything at any one given time or I will be throwing up. I eat 3 meals per day and try to have 1 (sometimes 2) snacks a day. I thin****il the stomach heals it is nearly impossible to get 68g of protein per day. I think we have to move slowly towards that protein.

I am on 3 meals and 2 snacks per day. I eat 1/3-1/2 cup per meal. So, your doing great at 3 cups per day. I range from 500-600 calories per day and about 30 g of protein from food. I drink a can protein drink that has 38 g of protein to make up the total of 68 per day. I think if you could add a protein supplament to your intake things may be right where your doctor wants you. Try the Ultra protein at GNC in a can in the fridge section. They have several flavors and all are good, not thick, gritty, very smooth and not overly sweet. NO after-taste either. Hope this helps... Hi Mary, I wish I had a good suggestion for you. I rely heavily on protein shakes to get mine in. I'm not crazy about them, but have found one I can hack. I use American Sports Nutrition's American Whey. It says to mix it with 8 oz. of water of skim milk...well I only mix it with 4 or 5 oz. of skim so that I don't have to drink as much of it....and still get 24.5 grams of protein in only 5 oz.! I drink one of these for breakfast, and one about 8:30 at night. Then I get the rest of my protein through food, mostly cheese or egg, and starting today tuna. I KNOW I don't eat anywhere near 3 cups of food a day (I may not even get 2 cups...not counting the 10 oz. of protein shake), but I manage to get my protein in everyday. Perhaps you could hack the protein shake in small quantities like this? There is also unflavored protein powder than can be added to things to boost the protein count. I was using that daily until I was able to eat food protein sources. It really is unflavored...but makes shakes, soups, or whatever quite a bit thicker. Good Luck to you! Kathy

My doctor only wants me eating 3 meals a day with no snacks! I am still having trouble getting in my protein, have tried everything but have not really found much I can tolerate yet. I am still drinking Sugar Free Carnation Instant Breakfast in the mornings. I am only able to eat about 1/4 to 1/2 cup at a meal, depending on what it is. I really have decided it may not be possible to get that much in at this point in time.

Yep! Exactly what everyone said. 3 cups is a LOT to get down in one day! I too eat about 1/2-1/4 cup at each meal, and I eat 4-6 times a day. But It IS very very tough between eating, drinking your water and getting all the pills/vitamins in. Keep it up! sounds like you're doing great! Amy 349/295/180 RNY 10/22/03
