Hello there, Shurell i seem to have the same trouble or else i just feel sick to my stomach if i think about eating, I guess it is my nerves I don't know. I would say just keep taking your vitamins and some protein drinks if possible. Hang in there, its made me feel depressed. I just try doing things different to see if it can help me. Liz in Texas

Shurell, I disagree with your doctor (I'm not a doctor, but I still disagree). I belong to lots of support groups and I have NEVER heard a doctor refer to that as normal. Most say... go to the emergency room.. you may have a stricture. I don't mean to scare you, but you need to branch out and ask some other folks. Go to the main message board on here or the chat room on the main board or go to your state message board... there are longer term post ops in there that can give you some advice. Maybe your doctor knows something that the rest of us don't..... maybe you have a distal RNY and I only know about proximal RNY?? I just don't know, but I would sure try to get more info and then call your doc back. Jackie

I'm sorry you are going through this. It's got to be nervewracking. Of course, we all think stricture. You need to see your doctor to be sure. But a thought that crossed my mind, what kind of food are you attempting to eat? And if it's not a liquid, are you taking tiny bites and chewing things to the consistency of baby food before swallowing? I've found that if I don't chew, things come right back up. I hope things start to go smoother for you.

Hi Shurell I would check back with your doctor. Here are some tricks I have learned when the stomach is giving me fits. If I am eating anything that is solid, I chew, chew chew. I also have a timer and make sure I wait 2-3 minutes before I eat the next bite. This seems to help. I also go back to puree food if I am having a bad day. I also am making sure I get the protein drinks in as a minimum. The Problend55 from VitaLady seems to be that best one I have tasted so far and all I need is 4-6oz of water. Hope this helps and good luck. Debbie

Shurell, I would first call my doc and again stress the point with him. Maybe he can perscribe some anti-nausia meds that might help. I would also go back to soft food. I too have a hard time keeping food down. I do good with things like yogart and cottage cheese. I eat that all of the time because anything with texture makes me sick. I know that in time it will get better but for now I am staying on soft food. Please keep us updated. We ALL care about how you are doing. Tanya T

Hi Surell, Wow, I sound like a broken record on here but I too have the exact same thing! Yesterday was my first day since 10 days post-op that I didn't throw up at all. I usually throw up about 7-10 times a day. Often when i hadn't eaten or drank anything, so I know exactly how you feel. Something that I found that helps: Make sure you are splitting your vitamins and pills. I was throwing up the small round one-a-days (which my surgeon told me I could have) and Vitron-C's which is an Iron supplement. I was also throwing up my prescribed anti-nausea meds because they were too big! Again, like everyone said, go REALLY slow, and maybe try some solid foods. I found that string cheese and laughing cow baby gouda's with reduced fat ritz crackers set really well. I can't eat beef or drink a glass of milk and no way to bread!! Take care of yourself and post again later to let us know how you are doing!

ME TOO !!! It's strange that all of us that is responding to this is just within a few days of each other from having surgery. Shurell, is it green stuff that is coming up? If so tell your doc you want a CT of the abdomen, could be bowel problem (this happen to me 1 week out). My doc told me last week that it is pretty common to have the narrowing stricture at 4-6 weeks out and a simple endoscopy usually can make the opening a little bigger. I'm having problems with indigestion after I start eating most things then end up vomiting, but it is the "foam and saliva" that comes up and not the food--strange. After having a bad bout of it I usually go back to broth. The last two days I have found that I can keep down hard cheese. Another problem I'm having is "getting with the program", I'm never hungry and therefore do not want to eat (know I will get heartburn and end up puking. I usually eat once a day and have one protein drink also--I know this is not enough. I keep telling myself I did not go thru all this to screw it up, but I seem to be doing it anyway. As everyone else has said Chew, chew, chew. I use a very small pickle fork to eat with, try getting a baby spoon and fork, this could help. We can all hang in there together. Marilyn

Are you able to "drink" soup? It is about the only thing I can keep down besides mashed potatoes on a consistent basis. I think there is still a learning/healing curve that needs to be met slowly.

Hi, I had surgery on Oct 13th and on Nov 28th my surgeon went down with a scope and widend the outlet to the pouch a bit as all I was doing was throwing up too. I had called on Tuesday and they gave me a choice of the day before or the day after Thanksgiving. Have had no trouble at all since. I think I would call my Dr. back! Good luck Patsy
