Protein Shakes & Weight Loss

Good Morning, I had open RNY 10/23. I have been reading the posts on here, the main board and the Texas board and I have a question. Does it seem to y'all that those who use protein supplements/shakes seem to lose more weight than those that do not? I read many people who have lost 40 lbs in their first month and it seems that all use protein shakes. My doctor is opposed to the supplementation and I for one I have lost about 18 lbs at 3 1/2 weeks post. Anyway, I was just wondering what your thoughts are? Thanks, Jackie

Hi Jackie, I have tried ESA, Designer Whey, MetRX Adkins. I hate them all. I gave up on the shakes. I am six weeks out and down 35 pounds. I think 18 lbs in 3.5 weeks is great. Best Wishes. Sharon

Hi Jackie, I had LAP RNY on 10/28. My doctor is very strict about drinking at least 2-3 shakes a day. I've tried so many and they're all awful! Sometimes I just can't get them down. They make me gag and feel nauseous. We're supposed to get 70-80 grams of protein a day. I was under the impression that if we don't get that much, then our hair loss will be more severe. As far as weight loss, everybody is different. I'm down 16 lbs in 3 weeks and I'm happy with that. But I am ready to give up on the shakes. Take care and best wishes, Donna

If y'all like chocolate (and what Woman doesn't) try this 1 packet S/F Carnation Instant Breakfast 1 Packet Splenda 1 Cup 2% milk or 1 Cup LeCarb milk 1 scoop EAS Whey Protein Protein Powder. Put it in a blender and drink from a coffee insulated mug to keep it cold cold. Not too bad. Not heaven, but not as bad as some i have had

I drink the sugar free carnation instant breakfast with milk...there is a chocolate version and a vanilla version. The vanilla is harder to find, so when I do find it, I stock up. I like the vanilla as I will add that to a cup of decaf coffee, or mix it with stuff. It is only 4 grams of protien, but every little bit helps! It is the milk that really gives the greatest amount of protien. I haven't done the protien shakes so to speak other than the carnation stuff, but I have found some items that are easy to eat, fix and are fairly high in protien: so easy is the little cups of cottage cheese...I like to mix a little salsa to give it some flavor. One 1/2 cup is 12 grams of protien. Another thing I love is egg beaters. 1/2 cup of that is 12 grams of protien. My Dr. told me to shoot for 40 - 60 grams of protien in a day. I am 9 weeks out and haven't had any hair loss. Good luck!
