scared to death

I had a ruptured appendectomy 15 years ago and my surgeon says that he may NOT be able to do the procedure laproscopically if I have a lot of adhesions making it hard for him to see what he is doing. In which case he will have to do the open procedure. I am scared to death of that. I know that there are a lot more complications that could happen with having such a large wound and that recovery is much more painful and longer. Has anyone out there had this experience? If so, I would love to talk to you about what you went through. Thanks for all the support! 5 days to go! Surgery is on OCt 9th at USC University Hospital. God Bless. Jennifer

Hi Jennifer... Being scared is very normal for any type of surgery, as well as complications can happen with the simplist surgeries. I am a firm believer that it all boils down to the amount of "FAITH "you have in your surgeon. I don't have the experience. However, after doing my research, I think that the scaring left from your previous surgery might alter the vision of the surgeon (making it difficult to see clearly inside of you). Although you have the final say as to the way you want your surgery done, and if you feel that you need to have it done laproscopically, than I suggest you let your surgeon know this. Atfer speaking to many post-ops about this surgery, not even a 1/8th of them who had OPEN RNY had severe pain and longer recovery times. Just alittle FYI. Keep your head up and thank God that you have been given this opportunity to change your lfe for the better.
