I have already had my first consultation for surgery. After considering all the risks and benefits, I felt confident to go ahead and start my progress. I just came across a website that had a number of links describing those who have died post-op, even several years out, from malabsorption of nutrients. Some developed liver problems, some lupus, and other diseases. Many were fatigued and unhealthy. I want to know the real balance on this. I'm not trying to discourage anyone else, but I would like to know more. Mary

Is that the website that is very anti-baratric surgery? I vaguely remember hearing about some website that is full of nothing but negativity and the whole site is slanted that way. It is claimed that obesityhelp.com is giving the Pollyanna viewpoint about WLS. I say ask your surgeon about those risks you discovered. Continue your research. I attend a local WLS support group and yes, there are a few people in this rather large group that have had complications but each person is different and more importantly, when asked if they'd do it again...the answer so far has always been yes. I'm a little afraid of the surgery since I've never had any surgery but I'm ready to make this change in my life and all I can do is hope for the best. Kathleen
