My last week
Hi Scott.
My surgery is Oct 8th and I'm a little nervous myself. But as far as the nutrition and what to eat, at my meeting they gave us a handout that explains what will happen in the hospital, what diet to follow in the hospital, what diet to follow from day 4-14 and then what to follow from there on. Didn't the class you attended give you anything like this? It seems they should if your class is going to be so far ahead of your actual surgery date. It's quite a lot to remember is such a stressful/nervous time. As far as the 4th day through the 14thd day, my info tells me that if I am meeting my fluid and protein needs, that it is ok to try 1 ounce servings (2 tablespoons) of 1). Cereals like cream of wheat, cream of rice, or otameal in thin consistency only. 2). Light yogurt without fruit pieces and they should be creamy.
3). Soups such as blended cream soup. No noodles or meats are recommended he first 2 weeks after surgery and 4). Low-fat cottage cheese. We are also able to eat 1 teaspoon of Ripe Bananna, unsweetened applesauce or canned fruit in juice (blended well) to mix our crushed medications in. And of course our Vitamin and Mineral Supplements and our chewable calcium. I chose Adult chewable Centrum vitamins and Caltrate Pluss 600 chewable calcium. After the 5th day you can start adding your protein powder to your sugar free gelatin, broth, cream soup, ect to make hi-protein receipes. And WATER, WATER, WATER. If you get tired of plain water, the new Propel Fitness water is very tasty. I like the Berry and the Black Cherry. Also, I have found other good info on the internet at different sites for daily diet suggestions and for recipes that are good for bariatric paitents.
I hope this helps a little. I know everyones doctors go by different rules, so your doctor may have somethng different in mind. Also, if you have more questions, call your doctors office and see if they can send you something in writing about what to and what not to eat.
Good luck on your surgery, and I hope your recovery is as pain free as possible.
