Hi there all of my October surgery-date buddies! Soon we will all be on the losing side together! I'm excited and nervous but I am trying to use this time to gather products that I will need as an immediate post-op! Channel that nervous energy into doing something good for yourself. Exercise, organize your house, make lists of things to do to prep yourself and your family for your surgery and then go do them! Peace, happiness and love to all! Lisa

Thanks for the advice. My date is 10/22/03 and waiting has not been easy however I know it will be here in no time. So I think I'll take your suggestion and just get ready. See ya on the losing side. Wishing you a speedy recovery. God Bless.

Me again! I'm adding a note here about 2 more amazing tools that I've stumbled onto - trying to spread the word everywhere I go! One of them is walking for exercise. I know, I know, we get hounded about exercise; but, I'm losing weight like crazy and I feel really, really good! I have to lose weight as a pre-op because my doctor requires it and b/c it lowers my surgical risk. The secret to really losing weight with walking is to walk for 2 CONTIUOUS miles - NOT 1 mile in the morning and 1 mile in the evening. I did that and it go me nowhere fast! It's got to be all in one walk. If you can't walk that far now - no problem! I couldn't walk even one mile before without being out of breath and my calves burning but my tolerance built up QUICKLY and now I can't imagine NOT walking every day. A good pointer is to always go at the same time every day. Make it a priority - hell, it just means that you are making YOURSELF a priority! No matter what is happening, when the clock strikes that magic time of day when you would go for your walk, then drop everything and go. YOU ARE WORTH IT! I've lost 8.5 lbs. in less than one week while doing this! I am also watching what I eat but I swear it's the exercise that has made all of the difference! I bought myself a pedometer for under $5 at Walmart so that I can measure the distance I am walking every day. I just clip it onto the waistband of my shorts, reset it and then go! If you can't afford to get a pedometer, then measure the distance out with your car (although that's a little less accurate) or have someone else measure out a 2 mile route where you're comfortable/safe walking. Then, let someone else that you trust know what your walking route is and when you usually go walking - in case there are any problems. If you have a cell phone, bring it with you if you'd like. I bring my puppy. She works security for free and she's loving every minute of it too. OK onto the next tool I've stumbled onto.... Go to the FITDAY.COM website. Create a login name & password and look around inside there! It's SO COOL and it's absolutely FREE! You can go there and record/log all of your activity/exercise, what you're eating, your weight loss goals and achievements, your food/beverage consumption, your vitamin intake and so much more! Then, you can easily run reports to quickly see how well you're doing with the whole exercise/diet/nutrition/goal achievement thing. Please, please check this site out! I did b/c I saw other posters mention it and I'm so glad I did. I've been entering exercise/weight/targeted weight & when I'd like to achieve my goal weight by and then I can click a button under Reports and it will tell me how many pounds a week that I've have to lose in order to meet that goal and how many pounds I have left to achieve it - all based on what I'm inputting. It will also tell you what vitamins/nutrients that you need meet requirements..etc. based on food labels. IT's awesome! A great way to organize all of this info. that we - as gastric bypass patients - need to track and adjust - for the rest of our lives.
