Linda, I had my RNY on October 1, 2001. Have lost 110 pounds and am now recovering from hernia repair and tummy tuck done on 8/28/03. I still need to lose about 25-30 pounds, but if I don't lose another pound, I'm happy where I am. As soon as the swelling goes down and the pain goes away, I'm sure this latest procedure will be worth it. BTW, my insurance covered!

Hi Tonya and everyone!
I don't really follow a specific regiment per say because my surgery made me dislike the foods that I am not supposed to eat! The main thing that helps me is to make sure I eat often. I love fruits and vegetables, and I am actually lactose intolerant now, so I am not tempted by alot of dairy products. I actually digest beef better than chicken for some reason, and it is a great source of protein, along with eggs. It just takes some planning to make sure you make time for yourself to eat as many times a day as it takes to get your nutrition. Are you able to eat more now? I probably initially had 10% capacity, and now I probably have 35%, so I am able to eat more. My weight has started to level off. I have lost about 180 pounds, and I only lose about 1-2 pounds per month now. I just had an abdominoplasty/panniculectomy last week, and am recovering from that now. Life is good!!!

Here I am around 160 lbs lighter and feeling so much better, I just can't believe it has been almost 2 years........ Thank goodness I have done really well with this surgery.
I am wondering if some of you can let me know what type of diets you are now following. I am still following closely my 1 year and I know I need to eat more........
I hate to drive from WV to OH this year since money is so tight..... Can you guys help a fellow OCT graduate out.

Hi, Jeni - Congrats on your tummy tuck/leg lift, etc. By now, you should be all done and home and healing. I'd like to do it myself, but just haven't gotten around to it yet (you know - when you have a life again, other stuff becomes more important). As for me - well, I've lost half of myself. I started at 300 lbs and am now holding (with no effort) at 150. I've gone from a size 26/28 to a 12. I'd be a 10 if I got my tummy done - the legs are already a 10. Good luck to you - hope that all continues to go well for you. See you lighter, MAZZ
Topic: Hi Linda, Marie, Nancy and Nancy!!!
I had my surgery October 11, 2001. I weighed about 342 and am now down to about 175, so I have lost almost 170 pounds. Life is so much better. I just found out the good news today that my pelliculectomy/abdominoplasty is APPROVED and going to be scheduled for the week of August 18th (about a month away!!) I am so excited, yet scared, as it will be extensive- about a 4-5 hour long surgery. It is predicted to take off another 10-15 pounds. You see, I am able to hide my belly very well under girdles and tight pants, but it is absolutley hideous. Fortunately the pictures submitted to the insurance company were graphic enough for them to approve it on the first shot. I am glad to hear that you all are so successful. I am so happy for all of us.

Hi, everyone! I would love to hear from anyone who is almost 2 years out, and if you are having a difficult time getting your last 10 pounds off. Also, have any of you this far out had plastic surgery to remove your loose skin. I have lost a little over 160 pounds, and I feel great. I am so blessed to have had this surgery. I am definitely a different person than I was 2 years ago!

Hi, Maria! I have also lost 160 pounds and I feel great. I had my surgery Oct. 12, 2001. I would like to lose about 8 more pounds, but it is more difficult. It still feels great not to have that weight on me. I feel like I am more disciplined now, and my energy has skyrocketed! Have a great day. Linda Groce

Hi, Nancy! It is good to read about someone who is the same month post op as me. I had my surgery on Oct. 12, 2001. I can't believe that it has been almost 2 years. I weighed in at 312 pounds, and I now weigh 148. I finally made it below 150 last Friday, and I am trying to stay there. It is difficult! I really want to get and STAY below 150. I'm only 5'2", so I probably could lose another 20 pounds, but I'm ok with staying between the 140-145 pound mark. Once I get the loose skin removed, I hope to be down to that amount. I just had to have my gallbladder removed, so I'll have to wait on the plastic surgery until next summer. I'm a teacher, so it would be better if I had that surgery during the summer. Have a great day, and I'll be praying that you can get below 150. I also thank God daily for providing doctors the wisdom to do this surgery. It has literally changed my life!!! Linda Groce
Topic: Looking forward to October 2003
I am Nancy Hensley who seems not to know how to update my profile. I am nearly two years out....and I am still very glad I had my surgery. Pre op I was 243.5 lbs. Today I am at 150 lbs. I can get down to 149.5, but then go above 150 again. Seems I cannot get down below 150 and stay. However, I will not complain. I am greatful to be at 150. I am 5 ft. 7 inches tall so that is not excessive. I exercise at Curves 4 to 5 times a week. I have been there since Feb. Prior to that I mostly walked and did some water aerobics. Curves seems to be easy for me to do and it is close to my house. The doctors still watch my progress and Dr. Proctor's office from Gainesville, GA where I had the surgery monitors the blood work done here in TX when I have it faxed to him. I still believe he is an excellent surgeon and caring person.
Since I went on Medicare before I was to the point of plastic surgery, I cannot afford to have that done. I was told Medicare will not pay. This is not a major concern since the way I feel and the turn about in my life is more important than extra hanging skin and drooping everything! Praise the Lord for his allowing all these good things to happen to me.
