Topic: Gaining weight
I had gastric bypass 10/07/01 and was loosing well. Then (with my dr's blessing) got pregnant and had a child. During my pregnancy I was told to break the rules so that I could make sure my child received enough nutrients. Now 3 years after his birth I am 70 lbs heavier than the day I found out I was pregnant. How do I get back to the rules after breaking them for so long. I don't know if anybody comes here anymore but I could really use some help if you are out there.

Hi sally, saw your post, I too just celerated 6 yrs, it is a new life isn't it? I had tummy tuck done within the first yr, then had a little lipo done, I know at 66 this month I will never have a young body again, of course I was heavy in my youth, so I am thankful everyday I have the energy I have to go and exercise and to do all that I do. My husband isn't able to help at all around the house etc, so I have to have the strength to do things that I can't hire done. Let me know what you eat etc, exercise etc, I know now is the hard time, no one things you can eat, but we can eat can"t we? Just not alot at a time, but we could if we choose eat all day long, and eat things that are not good for us, but we have all gone thru too much to give in now, when I get stressed I try and go and work out, that helps alot, and try to always have good things in, I love the 100 calorie micorwave popcorn from walmart, that is my treat, somedays I chose better than others, bread is still a big downfall, I just try not to have much, tell them in the resturant to not leave it on the table, would love to hear from you and how you have done it, blessings susie in fl
Topic: 6th Anniv Oct 2001 Made it another year
Just wanted to say Hi, and that I made it another year without gaining, other than going up and down a few pounds. Have gone thru many difficult times with hubby sickness, but still able to keep going thanks to the Lord. I do exercise at least 3 times a week at Morton Plant Fitness Center, and know that has helped greatly, not only stress, but shaping etc, pray all is well with everyone on this journey, Susie

I am still thankful each and every day for getting this surgery done. I went from a size 24/26 down to a 6/8 and now am a 10. I can eat/drink just about anything so it has been a bit harder to maintain and not expand my pouch too much. I encourage those considering bypass to seriously consider it, researching as much as you can. If you do decide to have it done, attitude has a lot to do with it. Am now looking (finally) into plastic surgery.

Topic: 5 and half years and happy
All through my life i battled with being the fat one in the group. I am so happy that people look at me for who I am and not how much I weighed. everyone asks "would you do it again?" and I always reply yes and a million times over.
Topic: RE: HELP!!!!!
Hello Julie, Like all the others, I have been where you are an am stuggling too, but am very proud of you and your success.. One thing no one can say is that you are a failure.. You have had a long five years.. I have read many forums and many doctors I go to when I tell them I have had a gastric and tell them I used to weigh in at over 300 lbs they say good girl.. You didn't learn to "eat around it" {?} But, I had never had one bad experience with the surgery until late last year, and honestly still don't know if it was it or not.. All I know is I am lucky to be alive.. My stomach literally exploded and a hernia wrapped itself around my bowels and ruptured themm causing them to explode and I was in severe pain for over oh I would say the better part of 15 hours, now as a chronic pain patient, thanks to partially the surgery.. well actually my primary care doctor refusing the vitamin b-12 shots I got neuropathy, and will be in a wheel chair as early as within the next two years of my life.. I am on vicodin now, and its getting to the point that it can't even put a dent in the pain... the whole left side of my body is messed up... and its gone over in to the right... bruising is horrible.. Anyway you can read about this on my profile parts of it... or on myspace under tantalisingtonya as sn or tonya baisen as name.. But I honestly don't know that I would go back through with this surgery now...
When all this happened to me, they told my family, 3 more minutes and I would not have been here, and honestly they did not expect me to make it through the night.. well I have always been a fighter, and I showed them how wrong they were.. They had taken everything out of my body and I was on complete life support for two days, but I motioned I wanted pencil and paper to write with so I could communicate with the doctors and nurses and familily... and I asked how long I was going to be in there...A VERY LONG TIME.... WEEKS AND WEEKS... they explained that since they had taken everything out and moved it all around and layed it on me, that i was going to be sore... and it would take recovery alot longer.. WRONG.. I was out of there within a week.. But I am still sick and this is March and I am gaining weight.. when I went in I weighed 112.. granted way under weight.. but now I weigh in at 141.. which is what they wanted me to weigh.. but I don't like it... Any ideas as to what could be happening anyone...
Topic: RE: Getting back on Track!
Hi Wendy,
Check with your doctor as far as getting an upper GI and a Upper Scope. Dont necessarily blame yourself. I myself had my surgery in Oct of 2001 and have followed the diet. I also have gained 100lbs. Three yrs out when I gained 10 lbs I had the above tests also with great results. This time they said my pouch was tiny and so was opening. The Doctor in radiology said the distal or lower portion of stomach was open too much. He said it is very difficult to get a physician to mess with. He said my food just goes right through my stomach. How embarrassing to have such a perfect surgery but have a problem that no one will fix. I havent given up I am still trying. If not back on the 34 yr diet search and which one will work best. Good luck. Kelley
Topic: 5 wonderful years of good living
Hi Everyone, it is so good to be on here again, haven't posted in a long time, had the surgery in Flint, Mich Oct 15, 2001, lost 120 ish pds, go up and down a few, so glad to see all the ones hanging in there. It is surely not the easy way out, people don't understand we still have to eat, and chose the right kinds of foods all the time just like those who haven't had the surgery. TO me it was a jump start, then I had to take from there. I was one of the older ones at that time, I was 60 at the time, and just celebrated my 65th and couldn't be happier or heathier. I am maintaining, can't eat after dinner anymore that was my bad time, now due to GERDS it just doesn't work for me to eat anything in the evening. It is a blessing really, because as you all well know we can't eat a lot at a time, but we could certainly snack thru some serious foods. I pray each and everyone of you had a blessed Thanksgiving, hopefully with some of your family, since moving to Fl last year, all our children, grand, and great are in Michigan. We try to get home a couple times a year, but not when it is cold. Hubby can't take the cold anymore due to numerous heart surguries etc. Well again good to be on here, Love Nancy ps still in size 10 jeans, which is a miracle for this Great Grandma
