Topic: Our surgeries should all be done!
So....how are you?   What have you had for success?  Struggles?  Issues? Questions?  I'm interested to see what people say to "sound off" on any issues successes they've had!

Tomorrow marks 4 weeks since surgery for me.  I'm healing well, but I'm still struggling with food.  I've got yogurt, tuna, mashed potatoes (w/unflavored protein added), and eggs down I think.  But I'm afraid to try anything new!

What are your soft food go-tos at this point?  Anyone have any recipes they'd like to share that they've tried so far?

Just check in!  I want to know how everyone is doing.  One of the reasons I am glad we have this board is so we can see if others are experiencing the same things we are.  Folks who've had surgery months ago may have forgotten.  I know there are certainly things I'd like to forget!!

Love and luck to all!
Keep up the amazing work!

OOOH!!  Post pictures, too!!

Topic: RE: Update....and emotions??
I haven't dreamed of food at all.  Then again I rarely remember my dreams.  I've been an emotional wreck.  I thought it was due to my marriage ending, but I'm oddly at peace about that when I really stop and think about it.  But I do cry easier and my feelings seem to get hurt faster.  I was stalled for like a week and had a big ole pity party but the scale started moving again today.  All in all, I think I've had one of the easiest times with this.  I had my staples out the day after surgery and was out of the hospital within 48 hours.  I've not had any problems with dumping.  Not thrown up once.  I'm a bit bruised still, but I'm managing to get my protein in daily.  Water is a whole different story.  But I am up exercising.  And I'm seeing a difference from my knees down lol.  I miss food, I'd kick someones butt for a pizza, but I know that I took this drastic step for a reason so I'm trying to stay focused.  I'm supposed to lose the majority of the excess weight in the first 6-9 months so I must stay vigilant.  Maybe in April I'll try pizza for my birthday lol.

Wow!  Your adventurous! LOL  I am on soft foods, and today I tried a little bit of tuna and let me tell you my stomach is making some very strange sounds.  Think its back to cottage cheese and yogurt tomorrow to see if that helps.  Today I had a really hard time getting my fluids in too.  I think I was like you, scared to drink because it might come back up.  Well tomorrow is a new day, as they love to say...one day at a time.

What kind of protein shake are you making.  I cant find any I like and I really need to get more protein in!

Thanks

I did get bumped to soft foods last week, but am finding it difficult to get all my liquids and protein in when I actually eat something, so I try to have one shake a day.

I had a tuna melt last night (1/3) and was horribly miserable after from eating too much! Today I had turkey and two bites of bread and was in horrible pain.  I have to figure out this eating thing because it is affecting my liquids babe. I'm that miserable, I can't drink anything or I'm afraid I'll throw up. That may have been the way to go this afternoon!

I'm sorry to hear about your piles of work! You'll get through them!  :)

doc took me off one of my antidepressants yesterday.  He thinks it could be contributing to my "I don't care.  What's the point?" Attitude. We'll see how it goes.

Also passed a kidney stone yesterday.  Nothing new for me, but I am cutting back on my calcium.  I can pass small ones ok, but I don't want them to get too big!

I was actually UP .6 of a pound today.  Likely from water retention from the stone. Who knows!  It better be to e tomorrow, though!!

Hope all is well!! :)

Hope everyone is doing good.  I went back to work the first time on Monday, and let me tell you, I turned the corrner to look at my desk and almost bust out crying!  Piles and Piles of paperwork.  I kept thinking, I'm never gonna get this done! Its been a long two days but each day gets a little better.  Is it wrong to wish that a month would just fly by? LOL  I'm sitting here drinking my protein shake and gagging.  So yes Sarah....we are all emotional right now..LOL  I was watching Parenthood...started bawling.

How was your check up?  YOu on food?

Topic: RE: Unflavored Protein Shakes
I have added it to chicken broth - just half a scoop. You have to watch the temp of the soup though - I think if it's too hot (140 or higher), it will get lumpy or something. I could not taste it at all. I have also added it to SF pudding.

If you change nothing, nothing will change.

I have!  I added half a scoop to some mashed potatoes and couldn't taste it at all.  it did change the consistency of the potatoes, though, they were just a little less thick.

that was the only time I added it to anything, though.  I've talked to others who've used it too and they all agree there is no flavor from it.

I think anything is post worthy!  For the people who've had surgery or for the people who are coming close, you may experience something that we are experiencing too, but are afraid to discuss or embarassed to mention.  Besides, we definitely want to know about your progress!!  Awesome job on the 19!!!
