Just an FYI, my surgen won't do anything but RNY on people with GERD.  Supposedly the sleeve can make it worse.  Just wanted to let you know.  Good luck.

September 5!!  I've been counting the days since I got approved.  The office staff thought it odd that I wanted to schedule so far ahead, but it comes down to the money, you know?

I've been worried every single step of the way that something would happen and prevent me from having RNY WLS. I was supposed to do 6 months with the doc, ins cut it to 3 months.

Then I was afraid that my employer would change my insurance ($5k deductible, more than $3k met!) and my deductible would start over.  They kept the same policy.

Then I sent my stuff to insurance and was approved first shot!  Whew! Another bullet dodged.

Oh, then they tell me that ins only covers $4k of the $16,500 surgery and that I have to come up with $12,500.  My wonderful, long time best friend cosigned for care credit for me (couldn't get approved on my own) and I'll have $6k cash by the time surgery rolls around.  Pretty much dodged every bullet a 6-shooter can spit out at this point.  Oh, that's right, I'm a machine gun target with a full belt.

Well, then I was worried about needing time off and my employer (who has been SOOOOO supportive) and I agreed that I could do the surgery during the time many of our clients will be attending a conference.  Whoop Whoop!  Two weeks off for me!

Oh, not to mention  my bloody psych eval!  Geeze!  I know I'm quasi-normal, but the psych eval...holy cow....the last thing i want to do is have someone tell me I'm too obsessed with my weight (with good reason, mind) to have the surgery!  But they said I was good to go.  My PCP supports my decision and my family....bless them!  Honestly, they've been amazing and supportive and definitely as excited as I am about this.  They KNOW the struggles I've had my ENTIRE LIFE (seriously!) and I can see they have hope for me, too.  Hope is something I've not had in ages...and dadgumit, i've got more hope now in my little toe than I've had in my entire body for years!

today's nearly over so I'm going to say 29 days!

Here we go September Folks!!  LET'S DO THIS!!!!

Sarah :)

PS: feel free to add me as a friend.  I'd love to keep up with your progress and postings!  I ramble, though (can you tell?) so if you don't want to keep up with me, i understand.

Hey everyone! I have a September date as well! I'm having my surgery 9/11. Everyone is concerened because of the date. I just tell them it's a great day because it's the first day of the rest of my life. 9/11 is always associated with negative feelings, and I want to have a positive spin on it. :) I've been approved from insurance since March 26th, but due to financial issues, I am just now getting around to getting it done! I'm so excited! Can't wait to share this journey with everyone!

I think it's fantastic that you're going to put a positive spin on 9/11!  Sure, horrible things happened that day, but there were some amazing stories of courage, love, support and goodness that came out of that day as well.

We're excited to share this journey with you, too!!  Congrats on your date!! :D

 Hi Jennifer

Same date 9/11.  I posted a few days ago that this is the beginning of a New Life for me.

I will be praying for both of us as we prepare to start our new life.

Hi! My surgery is scheduled for September 12. I have been working on this for almost two years, so I was a little surprised at the mixed feelings when I finally got insurance approval and a date...

The closer it gets, the more excited I am to get going!

 Hi everyone!

I just got my date too, 9/25! It's been a quick process, since my insurance doesn't require a diet of any kind. I'm glad it's quick, don't get me wrong, but I do wonder if I'm as well prepared as I can be. I will get my pre-op diet info this coming Thursday and then meet with the surgeon on Friday, so I think it will all feel very real at that point!

I've made the difficult decision to not tell most of my family, at least for now. My husband knows, of course, and my sister, but I'm not comfortable telling my mother, who has her own battles with weight and is usually incapable of being happy for anyone else who us having success. I worry she would be a really negative voice in my life, and I don't see her all that often, so we'll see if I can pull it off.

I'm excited to keep in touch with everyone, and i'm new around here and would love to add a few friends. Best of luck to everyone!
