Topic: Can't keep anything down
I am posting for my wife, Verna. We have finally arrived home from the hospital and her Gastric Bypass surgery. It is 9/25/09 and we have been home les than 24 hours. She is still unable to keep almost any liquids down. We are concerned with her getting dehydrated and malnourished. Regular water even comes back up. We did get 1 oz OptiSource (caramel yuck) to stay down yesterday evening.  Ounce #2 about 30 minutes later stomach was not happy with.

Advice?  Help?

I had RNY on December 31, 2008.  I have had NO, zero, zilch, nada complications, knock on wood!!  Unless you consider constipation worthy of mentioning...I did have that problem for a bit, but that is resolved.  But no serious issues whatsoever.  I am very blessed!!  I have lost 126 pounds in the last year.  Good-luck on your journey!!

don't be sad, everything happens for a reason. Last week , I went in for surgery and he started the surgery , and believe me i was prepared also., in the middle of it, dr saw i had a scarred liver and  stopped the surgery. I got to wake up to find out i had cirrohsis of the liver and holes in my stomach , but no RNY., now that is disappointing lol.  I look at it as a blessing though, at least i found out that something was wrong with me , that i can take care of..

I am not sayng you should nt be sad, because i understand the feeling and it is a legitimate one, but, look at it that perhaps a little later, if better timing for some good reason. I know you can use the time to get even more prepared :O)    and hopefully everything will go smoothly for you when it does happen,.  Ok, have a pity party tonight but tomorrow , be thankful , you don't have a scarred liver.  Good luck to you in the future,  sue from mi

Well today is MUCH easier than yesterday.  I was able to drink my whole 8 oz of protein shake.  I have 1/4 of my 20 oz water bottle down.    I have taken 2 tsp of my Lortab and not feeling any pain.

I woke up dehydrated and decided I am going to set an alarm every 2 hours during the night to wake up and take a few sips of water

I am about to go get some chicken soup and strain it and drink the broth.

:)

I can't wait until I am on the pureed stage....Liquids are fun and everything...but I miss texture :)

let me know what they tell you, I still have one open one that bugs me and my doc still says to just gauze it...he says its open to let stuff out and if they close it it could be worse and cause infection.....I too am worried about the scar but Im more concerned about infection so I will choose the scar :)
