Hello all,
I am flipping out! Last week when i went to get my pre-op blood work done, my Doctor and Seurgon both called me to tell me that my pottasium was low, and that my WBC was elevated. So my surgeon told me to recheck next week and if my WBC was still high we would have to reschedule my surgery. My PCP doubled my pottasium pills and called today to tell me to get my blood redone. So i took my lunch break to go get drawn. Mean while I found out I have a ear infection. I am trying to figure out why my WBC is elevated. I am not sick, no allergies, nothing just the ear infection which the doctor isnt sure that would be it or not. So I get my results and my pottasium is even lower than it was, and im doubling my dose, and my WBC went from 11.9 to 12.0...and my RBC is low..I know my surgeon is going to call tomarrow to cancel, and i just dont think its fair. I have worked so long and hard to get to this point. Im not sick, I dont know whats going on. Anyways i just wanted to vent. I am currently scheduled for 9-30-09. Cross your fingers. I have been crying all day.
thanks
Paula

Did you find out anything? Good luck! I hope you get to have it on the 30th. I know you already know this...but if they need to reschedule it's only to keep you safe so that you can be successful.  I know you're disappointed though.  :(

Sue, that sounds like it was quite a blow.  I have the same surgeon and am scheduled for this coming Monday, the 21st.  I've had quite a few hurdles to get to surgery and I can only imagine how you must feel.  Are there plans to do a different surgery at some point?  If I can help, please let me know how.
Make it a good day!

Wow! Please tell us about your liver. Why the scarring? Where do you go from here? What a bummer!

I hear your frustration.  It took me two years to reach the weight goal for surgery approval.  I was finally scheduled for surgery on August 31.  When I went for my pre-admission screening, I was told I had to get a hematology clearance because they thought I might have von Willebrand's Disorder.  Long story short - I got the call from the hospital telling me when I had to arrive for surgery.  Hooray!  Then, 20 minutes later, I got a call from the hematologist saying he couldn't clear me because I do have von WIllebrands (a blood clotting disorder kinda similar to hemophilia).  Talk about devastated!  Well...I'm back on for Monday (9/21).  I've been cleared - responded well to the medication.  I think they probably saved my life since I could have hemorrhaged during surgery and they wouldn't have been prepared for it.  I've decided that all the setbacks are just confirmation that this is the route we really want to take.  Hang in there!
