Topic: RE: Could I have stalled at 3 weeks - please help!
I stalled at three weeks, for three weeks. Hopefully, I am losing weight again, but I'll wait another few days to make that decision.
Topic: RE: How are you doing (September Surgeries)???
Hello Everyone!!
My name is Dee. I had a VSG on September 1st and have lost 35 lbs to date. I have been in a 2 week stall which has caused me to eat when I shouldn't. I was getting worried that I would never lose again! It is so helpful to see that others are going through the same issues that I am. I constantly worry that I will stretch out my pouch and gain all my weight back. I will be checking in regularly since I don't have a WLS group in my area to be able to attend meetings. I am back on track starting today and will plan on adding in some much needed exercise.
Thanks for listening......Dee

Hello September Samurais! My name is Debbie and I had my rny on 9/23. As of today I have lost 24.5 pounds. Prior to surgery I lost 18. I've been majorly stalled for at least 2 weeks. Finally this morning I weighed again and was down a couple more. Hopefully I'm on the way again.
It was very frustrating to be doing everything right and not lose for so long. I know I tried to not be frustrated since it happens, but jeesh!
I think my frustration is what allowed me to eat 2 mini candybars on Holloween. I ate a Milky Way and then later had a Butterfinger. I'm disappointed to say I did't dump. I have diabetes and love sugar, so that was a very sad discovery. Oh well, just have to depend on myself to do what is right.
Good luck on your trip Gina, and to all my September buddies.
Debbie

Topic: BMI...
I am down 10 points on my BMI!!! How cool is that!
14 pounds lost before surgery. My first ticker is when I hit onderland: this was my goal when I started on this journey. I want to focus on that right now...once I get there I can reevaluate.
My second ticker is my dream goal. Even if I only visit there for a short time, it would be nice to see that number just once. I am pretty sure I'll need plastics to hit this goal.

Hello Setember Samurais, I usually don't post but I am feeling like something is really wrong with me. I had RNY surgery on 9-18-08 and have lost 41 lbs. I feel ok but I have not really tried any foods at all. Everytime I try to eat something I get the foamies and either throw up or feel terrible for hours. I drink isopure to get in the protein but I know it is not anywhere near the recommended amount. I have read on here what you all are eating and just can't believe it. I tried to eat egg drop soup today at lunch and was heaving it up an hour later. I am so frustrated at trying foods that half the time I don't try it all and just stick to the protein. Do you think there is something wrong?
Topic: RE: Eating is no fun
First let me tell you , this will pass, I'm 3 yrs out and have been where you are.
I had a different kind of surgery but the results are the same , it changed the way we live and eat now. Some days it does still seem like a chore and not worth the effort but most days I am thankful I did this. Think about it, the next time your eating in a group.
When was the last time any of those people actualy tasted the food they are ingesting? When was the last time it took them more then 4 or 5 bites to eat a burger. We now get the pleasure of tasting what it is we put in our mouth , and to be honest once I slowed down and had to taste the food, there were alot of things I realized I didn't even like ,and other things I found I loved.
Your right , for awhile the fun will be gone , it will be work BUT as you get further out it will be good again. We also get the advantage of being able to like food for what it is NOT because it's the next thing on our plate. I look at this way if I am only going to eat so much food at a time I'm going to make it count for me. I don't sp much eat carbs anymore because I see them as fillers , why else would they bring you rolls first in a restraunt, cheep easy fillers.
The pressure is the bodies way of saying stop it your full when your brain hasn't gotten there yet. Try and take notice of that and watch for it , lets say for lunch due to the fact you said you eat carbs still, say your lunch is tomatoe soup and crackers.. Measure it out, say 1/2 c soup and 4 crackers , when you get the preasure where are you in the meal? all done? all but 2 crackers? all the crackers and half the soup? Now adjust that to stop before the preasure. SAy it is all the crackers and half the soup , since you KNOW the soup is the better option here try eating 1/2 the soup then having a cracker or two broke up in the soup if thats how you like it , leave the other 2 crackers in the kitchen put away don't even take them out as an option.
Next you have to look at WHY your eating that way. Do you REALLY love those carbs? are you just so used to eating them it is a habbit, Where you a clean plate kid so if you have it you HAVE to eat it? Once you find the sourse you can work on the issue.
Add in protine by adding in a glass or two of milk through the day , it will add calories and good carbs and it will add protine also BUT you can get 1% or 2% and cut the fat count down.
I don't believe eating carbs is bad , I still eat them BUT it's how much and when you eat them. I always make them the last thing I eat for my meal and If I don't finish whats on my plate , it's doesn't get to be the first thing I eat next time, I start over again , protine, veggies, fruit, then carbs, usualy I run out of room before I get to carbs.
I hope this helped out in some way.

Topic: Eating is no fun
I am having a terrible time with my diet. I am only getting around 500-600 calories a day and I am short on my protein by 10-15 grams. Carbs.....forget it. Can NOT get those under control..... I am way over almost everyday..... I can't seem to cut them out completely.... any suggestions??? Is there anything I can substitute? I can't seem to just eat meat and vegetables all the time....
I had my first fill a couple of weeks ago and since then when I eat I get this, pressure (for lack of a better word) after I eat. I haven't gotten sick but I don't feel good. Is this because I am eating too fast or not chewing properly? or both? '
I also have an issue (mental I'm sure) that all the fun has been taken out of eating. I no longer enjoy sitting down to a good meal, especially when I have to chew until there is no taste left. Do you think that will change or is that just the way it is going to be from now on?
Thanks for listening. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated....

Hello everyone,
My name is Laura and I just found this site. I had my surgery on the 17th. I have lost a total of 42 lbs. I stalled for about 2 weeks and I am soooo relieved to know that others have also stalled. I have trouble getting the excercise in. I have been working a 12-14 hour day and by the time I get home I just want to eat and go to bed. Things are starting to slow down now so I am hoping I will do better. I did a 3 mile walk for the Heart Association yesterday and that went well.

Hello everyone! I had distal bypass surgery on Sept. 23rd and as of today, I've lost 43 pounds. I've been frustratingly weighing myself everyday and have been on a plateau for the last 4 or 5 days. I looked up some tips on the website concerning plateauing and the words exercise and walking kept popping up. I admit that I haven't walked nearly as much as I should and am going to make a commitment to go on at least a 30 minute power walk everyday. I've also been wanting to lift some weights to keep things tight, but haven't yet. For 4 weeks after my surgery, I was diligent about drinking my protein shakes everyday, but got really burned out on them. I admit I haven't been counting every single gram of protein that I consume everyday since I slowed down on the shakes, but I swear I've been taking in enough: cottage cheese, string cheese, tuna etc... One of the meals I've become accustomed to for a week or so is a small baked potato with a little 2% cheddar cheese on top and some Smart Balance butter substitute. Perhaps I should cut these out of the diet! I got a little nervous about potatoes reading the plateau tips as well.
I must admit that after reading everyone's stories concerning their plateaus, I'm somewhat encouraged that I'm not alone, and that it's normal. Hopefully, all of us will start seeing those pounds drop again very soon. Perhaps I should throw my scale out the bedroom window, or simply weigh in once a week. It's difficult to pass by the scale in my bathroom and not step on it. I purchased a Biggest Loser scale from Target and love it...or actually...I hate it!!!
Looking forward to reading about everybody's developments as time goes by.
Regards,
Joey Costanza
