Topic: United Surgical.Staten Island..anyone use it?
Hi all: I'm about to look into weight loss surgery and I live in Staten Island. Was wondering if anyone had their surgery through United Surgical? Are they good surgeons for this type of surgery.
I heard of Dr. Nicastro or Dr. McCullen. Any one know of them?

Wow, so many differences in what we all have to do. I only have to be on a liquid diet for 2 days prior to surgery and I am scheduled to be 2nd in line, but I have to check into the hospital at midnight before my surgery. I live 3 hours away from where I will be having surgery so I have booked the whole week at a local hotel for hubby to stay and then when I get out of the hospital 4 days later, I will be staying an extra 2 days as recommended by my surgeon, just incase I have any problems since there is no one in my area experienced with this surgery.

I am so sorry. I feel so bad for you I don't know what to say. I will pray they come up with something this month. Poor honey!

We got home last night. Tuesday and Wednesday morning were hard but I feel much better now. 2 things meds they sent me home with were about $200 which I wasn't expecting. Also if at all possible bring someone to stay with you. It is like being a helpless baby for the first 36 hours. He had to get me out of bed, shower me, make me walk, make me deep breath, everything. Thank God for my honey.

It's so interesting that each of our doctors have different pre-op plans. My doc enforces the two-week liquid diet beforehand, though for me he suggested I start earlier than that. By the time I have my procedure on Sept 15th I'll have been on the liquid diet for four weeks! If I'd known that starting out, I'd have been hella-depressed! Still, it's nice to feel that I'm progressing already, even before the surgery.
There's a strong support group in middle Tennessee, and the members have been very helpful. But I think this board is going to be just as--or more--important to my success. Thanks for being here!

Alright, Susan, Pinky, and Bic! I'll be thinking about all of you a week from Monday. My surgery is the third one of the day, so I won't need to be at the hospital until 9:30am. I don't know you guys, but it's comforting to know that I'm not alone--even if you're all spread out all over creation!

Gina, I'm so sorry to hear about all this. The worst part of this preparation process has been the waiting, and to have the surgery rescheduled at the last minute would frustrate and depress me too. I'm sending positive vibes your way that you and your husband can find good ways to rearrange all that planning you spent so much time and energy on. As someone in a support group told me earlier this week, "Just breathe. Breathe." No, it's not an answer, but it helps with the stress.

I am right there with you - surgery is scheduled for 9/15/08......and now it is 9 days and a wake up - away. I am slotted for surgery @ 7:30 am, which requires me to be there at 5:45 am. Though I probably won't get any sleep the night prior, I have made reservations at a hotel in WIlmington, NC for my mom and me (she is so wonderful for being my support so my husband can maintain the house and the kids).
I started this journey almost two years ago, as far as doing all my research. I didn't get serious until mid-May and I can't beleive it is almost here.
I am very excited too....
Please keep me poste don how everything works out....

I have my surgery on Sept 15th also, I wasn't nervous until I was told to start the 2 week liquid diet. This is really real.
