I am nearly at a 4 week plateau and I totally understand the whole concept of plateau is that your body doesnt want to lose weight because it is afraid of starvation and also it has gotten used to the calories/workout routine, BUT DOES ANYONE KNOW HOW LONG THE PLATEAU WILL LAST????  I CANT BEAR ANOTHER WEEK OF THIS.

If you want to break a plateau, you have to change things up.

First, if you aren't tracking your food, start! If you are tracking, look for patterns. Have you let your protein slip a bit? Are carbs creeping up? Are you still getting in all your water on a regular basis?

Then, for your exercise, you can't keep doing the same thing at the same level of intensity. As you get more fit, you will burn less calories doing the same thing. So you have to increase the time or the intensity. Or you can try a new exercise so you are working a different part of your body.

Some common stall busters are:
1) drink more water
2) consume more protein
3) consume less carbs
4) change up your exercise

I have tracked my food and exercise religiously since I started. Every time my weight loss slows down, I look at my records and I always find a cause. I correct that cause and my weight loss picks right back up.

It looks like I may have busted the plateau.  I lost a lb in then a half lb.  Not much but better than stand still!

HI TUSUN:  I JUST READ YOUR MESSAGE AND JUST WANTED TO LET YOU KNOW THAT I TOO PANICKED A FEW WEEKS AGO AFTER LOSING WEIGHT, IT SUDDENLY STOPPED. BUT, I WAS NOT IGNORANT OF THE CHANGES THAT I DID, WHICH CAUSED IT TO SLOW DOWN.  I WAS LOSING ALOT QUICKLY, THEN WENT TO THE FITNESS CENTER AND BECAME DIZZY WHILE EXERCISING.  THE NUTRITIONALIST TOLD ME TO EAT MORE - WHICH WAS NO BIG DEAL AND VERY EASY TO DO AND I WENT FROM 600 CALORIES PER DAY TO 1100 CALORIES AFTER A FEW DAYS - SO EATING WASN'T HARD.... BUT IT SLOWED MY WEIGHT LOSS DOWN CONSIDERABLY UNTIL IT STOPPED.  THEN, I REALIZED THAT I WAS EATING MORE IN BETWEEN MEALS, KIND OF LIKE GRAZING AND I HAD TO STOP IT - SO NOW, I EAT MY 6 MEALS WITH LIQUIDS IN BETWEEN AND MAKE SURE MY PROTEIN LEVELS ARE HIGH BY EATING PROTEIN FIRST.  NOW, I AM LOSING WEIGHT BUT AT A SLOWER PACE.  SO, THIS IS WHAT I HAVE TO DO TO CONTINUE - AND I ALSO STOPPED EXERCISING DUE TO HURTING MYSELF ON THE TREADMILL, AND NOW I NEED TO GET BACK IN THERE - BUT MORE CAUTIOUSLY.  SO, ITS A LEARNING THING.  I'VE LOST 105 POUNDS NOW SINCE SEPT. 2008 AND I FEEL GREAT AND STILL LOSING, ONLY BUT SLOWER.  BE ENCOURAGED. IT DIDN'T TAKE 8 MONTHS TO PUT ON THE WEIGHT, GIVE YOURSELF SOME CREDIT AND KNOW THAT YOU'RE BODY IS GOING THROUGH A LOT OF CHANGES AND YOU CAN DO IT.  GAIL
