Ok everyone it is roll call.  Lets see how many of us check in.

My name is Asia and I live in the beautiful state of Hawaii.  I am 9 weeks out and have lost exactly 50 lbs.  That is 50% of my excess weight.  This is the best thing that I have ever done.  I am starting my running program and hoping to do my first 10K in February.  I don't plan on running the whole thing but plan on running half.

Aloha,
Asia

I'm Marie and I'm 7 weeks out. I've lost 50 lb. total, 20 of that post-op.

I'm having troubles chewing enough and eating slowly enough, but on the plus side, I'm working out like a maniac and will be entering my first triathlon in May.

Hi, I'm Lisa and I'm 10+ weeks out.  I've lost 28 lbs and have been in a huge stall.  I do know it will start moving but its hard when you are only eating about 700 calories and aren't losing.  I feel like I am getting into a good rythym though.  Get my 65-75 grams of protein in every day.  I began an exercise program --- not going at it too agressively.  I figure whatever I start I need to continue the rest of my life so I want to make sure it works for me.  I joined a gym and am going 4 times a week.  I found I really like the recumbant bike and can do it for 30 minutes.  Then I spend about 15 minutes doing the ab machines.  In December I am going on a cruise with my husband.  We cruise often but this will be the first post-op.  I am nervous about finding things I can eat.  We'll see.

104 lbs lost now Maintenance BABY!!!!

Hi Lisa you are still doing great and probably losing a lot of inches.  I would recommend upping your calories a little.  When I had a stall someone on the board told me to eat a little more because your body thinks it is starving.  I am eating around 800 to 1000 calories.  Most times closer to 800.

I am so "J" me and my husband don't go no where.  There is no money and raising 5 children is really hard now days.  When you are on your cruise don't worry to much about the food.  Find two things that you really want to eat and it that.  I bet you will pick up the high protein ones.  Remember to pack some protein bars, protein drinks, and your crystal lite travel packs.

Keep up the great work on the excercise.  I wish I could get to the gym.

Aloha,
Asia

Eh, I've been researching the whole "starvation mode" concept and, as far as I can tell, it doesn't really exist except in extreme cases -- none of which applies to us.

In the famous Minesonata study that started the whole idea, the men in the study did experience a drop in metabolism when their calories went very, very low. (At or below 50% of their resting metabolic rate). But ... and this is a big but ... they never stopped losing weight. They did *not* plateau. Plus this drop in metabolism didn't happen instantaneously the second they dropped below 50% calories.

IME, you need to eat enough calories that you still have the energy to do your daily activities. If you are taking naps 2x a day instead of going to the gym to work out, adding in some calories is going to help you. But adding in too many -- more than you burn with your extra energy -- is self-defeating.

Personally, I have to keep my calories down around 650 on average and work out at least 4x a week or my weight loss slows way down. I know adding more calories doesn't help because I had at least 800 calories every day I was in Vegas and I only lost 1 lb. that week compared to the 4 I've already lost this week.

Hi Gang, I am in NJ and I am eight weeks out on Monday.  I am down 64 pounds with 14 of that from pre-op...so basically I'm down 50 pounds from surgery.  But I still have a long way to go.

I go back to work Monday...yuck!!!

14 pounds lost before surgery. My first ticker is when I hit onderland: this was my goal when I started on this journey.  I want to focus on that right now...once I get there I can reevaluate.

My second ticker is my dream goal. Even if I only visit there for a short time, it would be nice to see that number just once.  I am pretty sure I'll need plastics to hit this goal.

Hello Everyone,

I am Karen and I live in Washington State.  I am 6 weeks out and have lost 52 pds (20 pre-op) but I have been in a stall twice already.  The funny things is I am reading all the tme that this is normal, but it feel so crazy and even frustrating.  My co-workers tell me I melting before their eye, however I don't really see it yet.  My face is smaller...but could I loose some of this muffin top.  This journey is definately a challenge, but it is nothing that I can't handle.    Best to luck to us all...talk to you soon.

Karen

Karen I love that my face is smaller.  That just means I take better pictures.  6 weeks and 52 lbs that is awesome.  Keep up the great work.
