 Hi everyone,
I just found this website and had RNY on 09/19/08.  It's been a weird month.  Happy about losing 37 lbs so far!  Also had pancreatitis and was in the hospital last week.  So, it's been an up and down ride.  Anyway, I just wanted to see where people who just had surgery were in their journey...emotions/physical pain (or none)...and general well being.

Thanks for listening...

HI Alison,
My RNY was 09.30.08.  I have had no post op pain and was off morphine 24 hours after surgery - just lucky I'm thinking!  I just went back to work at two weeks and find my energy and brain function by 2 pm is almost non-existant.  Although this is minor in the scope of things, my biggest problem has been insomnia.  Just starting to get a handle on that now.  And , now that I'm sleeping a bit better - I am having horrific nightmares!  My pharmacist tells me that both are caused by the general anesthesia and that it just takes the liver a little longer than some to process all the stuff that went into us during surgery.

Sorry to hear about your pancreatitis - that must have been terribly painful.  Kudos on your weight loss!  That's great.

Cheers,
Sandi

 Hi Sandi,
What do you think about the journey so far?  Any regrets?  Are u getting in enough protein/water?  Sorry about the insomnia!  That's gotta be tough!

So far, so good.  It's funny , I was just sitting down a little while ago and I thought to myself, holy cow - I've actually done this - I'm on my way to the me that I knew was inside me and there's no going back now!

I find water boring unless it's nice and cold, so I make sure to keep the fridge stocked and when I"m at work (I'm a financial advisor****ep an ice pack in with my water.  Thank God I still love my milk.  Not only does it help with the fluids, but it's 8 grams of protein and I make sure I drink 3 glasses a day.  I do find the protein shakes kind of gaggy, but if I"ve not hit my numbers, I'll make myself drink one.

I think I"m doing okay with protein in general - still like cottage cheese, which is a blessing! Also enjoying lentil soups and I"m adding a tbsp of peanut butter to my carnation instant breakfast in the mornings.

How about you ?  Regrets, hurdles?  What kind of foods can you eat now?

I'm at the point where I keep forgetting I had the surgery. At least in terms of energy level and doing things.

But in terms of eating, I'm not doing so well. I'm having trouble getting all my fluids in and I'm still working on not eating or drinking too fast. I feel behind in this particular area. I think I will end up staying on mushies longer than the minimum.
