Leaving for surgery....RNY on 9-24-08.
Last night I did something I probably shouldn't have. I wondered over onto the Memorials page............bad idea! I don't recommend doing that two nights before having surgery but I was so curious. I read alot of sad stories of people who have passed on either during or after having WLS. It didn't scare me away from having surgery but it definitely had me thinking about all the possibilities of complications. But...I am going into this with a positive attitude and I'm taking all the good thoughts and well wishes from all my ObesityHelp friends/family. I am ready!
I have not ventured there but I do know someone recently passed and I saw that on the general forum. I had a panic attack last night. I had to take something to sleep because I was so sad for her & her loved ones. But, I also freaked out because there were no details except she was post op and had a leak and then passed. Well I am just 4 days post op and I thought I was in the clear now!
I had to tell myself that I am going to be fine, I knew the risks (which as so minimal) and what she had was extremely rare!!!
You too will do fine, I do not know her doctor, hospital, medical history, or anything. But, all you can do is stay as positive as you can. It really helps I swear in the recovery! Visualize yourself recovering, do everything to the smallest detail that your Dr tells you and pay attention to how you feel. If you have any questions call the Dr. first and then post your question here if you think you may have any type of problem what so ever! Do all of this and I really believe you will be fine. Say a prayer, ask others to pray for you, and if they do not pray ask for their positive thoughts. I swear it will work!!!
If you were sure about this before you read the Memorials I would press forward because anyone would freak out from reading those, especially days before surgery!
Truly,
Gina

You're going to do great snhughes2!!!! Yep, we all know the risks and I too had the same feelins prior to surgery. You're right though... keep up that positive attitude. After surgery you may feel a little down, but don't fret - it will pass. We are all here for you girl! I'm looking forward to reading about your sucesses and seeing new pics!

The first day and a half were toughest for me, when I couldn't get out of bed without help (and the nurses were so unhelpful at my hospital, which didn't help matters any). By the end of day 2 I was able to get out of bed by myself and walk around the hospital. Walking helps a lot, even if you don't want to. Also, do the breathing practice religiously to build you lungs back up. I had my surgery 6 days ago and except for fatigue, I feel really good. Although riding in a car really jiggled my insides too much yesterday (I had to drop off stuff at work). And don't be surprised if you're depressed the first few days, especially. I was a crying mess, but am feeling better now.
You'll be fine. I'm keeping you in my prayers!! : )
