Home after RNY
My procedure was on Monday around noon. The doc said it took a little longer than usual because he had to work around some scar tissue. I have no idea what that's about, but I'm glad he was able to do what he did.
The surgeon came by on Tuesday and said he'd release me the next day, and I asked, "Why not today?" He thought about it and said as long as I wasn't feverish or nauseous, I could go home at 4pm. I was fine, so they let me go after just one night. I was ecstatic.
I'm very sore, but the more I move the better it feels. I have some liquid Loritab to help with the pain. Beginning today I can start having full liquids, so I'm looking forward to tasting some strained cream soup. Meanwhile, I'm sipping and walking. The doc said these first two weeks he wants me to concentrate mainly on staying hydrated. When I go back to see him in a couple of weeks, we'll get more specific about vitamin regimens and the like.
At my doctor's suggestion, I went on the liquid diet early, so I was on it for a month before the surgery. In that time I lost 45 pounds, and he said that's the reason I did so well. I can't believe it's over. I was very scared, but it turned out just fine. The pain is real, but it's temporary. My tool is in place, now I just have to live with it and use it!
