Hi,
I'm new to blogs and chatrooms.  I would like to make some friends to find out what to expect with the VSG and support.   I am scheduled for 9-29-08.   I'm getting anxious.

Any info I can get on what to expect and what to eat after my surgery would be greatly appreciated.  I have about 120 lbs to lose.  I'm looking forward to getting rid of all this excess weight.  I feel like I am at the end of my rope.  My quality of life is bad.

Please reply.

Thanks a bunch!

I had my vsg on September 11th.  For 2 weeks prior to surgery I was on a high protein liquid diet I had to get the supplements from the dr.  1 week prior to surgery I had a weigh in to make sure I was sticking to the diet and have a pre-op physical with blood work.  The surgery went well.  I was up and walking about 6 hours after I came out of recovery.  I did have some pain but it was not alot.  I had ice packs on my belly more to help with pain control than swelling the nurse said.  I could have ice chips but nothing to drin****il after the leak test the next morning.  You have to sip contrast while they watch it go down to see if there are any leaks.  After that I was given unjury protein drink and I had to finish an ounce an hour.  Some times I made it and sometimes not.  Expect to walk walk walk.  It helps with the gas.  I came home the second day after surgery.  I have more pain in my back than in my stomach but that is from sleeping at a 45 degree angle which put me mostly on my tail bone and I have arthritis in my back.  I am on a liquid diet for 2 weeks post-op.  I think then I go to mushies.  (had to buy all of the liquid diet stuff from the dr. but that is ok then I know I am getting the right stuff.)
Hope this helps.  The hospital staff was great!

hello
I was sleeved on 9/5/08
I have had some set backs, I got dehydrated and end up back in the hospital.  (vomiting & diarrhea)
I have always had a problem with diarrhea(chrons)
I lived on sugar free Popsicles!!! So glad I already had them
in the freezer.  I have seen others with no problems at all.
My problems stemmed from the health issues I already had
before surgery. I can say since the surgery - really don't
want anything, no hunger!!!  I for some reason have problems with liquids - I tend to get too much air in when I try to eat.  So I have to wait for the air to come back out, before I continue trying to eat.
Sugar Free Popsicles
Wonton Soup - No wonton or meat
Sugar Free pudding
low cal yogurt
Ice chips to get my water
Crystal light - even in ice chip
sugar free jello - if u buy it already fixed pick it up in ref area it is softer
Italian ice - sugar free

I think everyone is different, some of our health issues
before surgery, some times slows us down during
recovery.
I am being honest -
I would do it all over again!!!
I knew due to my health issues it would not be a walk in the Park!
I also know I will get pass this hump in the road and move forward.   I have had to use the scopolamine patch since the surgery they have helped so much with the nausea.

I am 5ft tall and wt 215, when I started @ my one week f/u I had lost down to 191, I go back for a f/u this Monday.  So I'll
see how much more I have lost.(my clothes are too big)

My family and close friends say they can tell I have lost a good
bit in a small amount of time.

stay focus on the wt lost - it will get you through.
your date is coming up soon - hang in there.
you will be glad you did it when you see the lbs
dropping off.

This site is wonder every one shares it is great.

Above all listen to your doctor's advice and follow the directions that are given to you.  All clinics are little
different - but you main source of help or advice should
come from them. The clinic I go to, even called daily
since I've been out of the hospital to help me through
this hump I'm in - they are great.

(MY HUSBAND WORKS WITH A GUY - THAT HAD IT DONE
ON A Wednesday AND BACK @ WORK MONDAY) HE IS DOING GREAT AND LOSING WT WITHOUT ANY DIFFICULTY.

WISH YOU AN EASY SURGERY AND A EASY FAST RECOVERY!!!
HANG IN THERE.
