1Has anyone found out yet if they have to do a preop diet. I don't have my Nutrition consult until next week and I am unsure if they will have me to the liquid diet. It seems as though some people have to do it and some don't and I'm not sure why. Thanks for any input

I think it totally depends on the surgeons preference. My surgeon wants only a 3 day liquid diet pre-op but I know people who have to be on a liquid diet for a few weeks. It aids in reducing the size of your liver to make it easier during surgery. I hope this is helpful. Theresa

I was suppose to be on a two week liquid diet but my surgery was approved in less than a week and the nurse said that it was ok. It depends on your doctor. Mine really wanted me to get use to the liquid diet that I would have to go thru the weeks that follow after my surgery...Kiona

My surgeon requires a 2 week diet but it is high protein supplements not just liquids. It is packets of food you add water to. Low calorie and high protein. It is to help shrink the liver. I start mine August 28 I have surgery September 11. I am having VSG.
