Topic: JP Drain issues
I had my surgery last Monday and get the drain removed next Monday. I'm still having a lot of drainage though. The Dr. said it would turn clear and gradually slow down but I'm not seeing that. I don't really have any signs of infection. The site is pink but not red. The liquid is reddish-orange. with no odor and I'm still emptying about 145 ml per day. Anyone else experience this?

I think that something you also have to look at is that the folks who are having WLS are morbidly obese (or super morbidly obese) so they are more likely to have complications from surgery than those with lower BMI. For example, my BMI at surgery was over 60. I had RNY. One incision became infected -- it was through an area with a LOT of fat. Fat has fewer blood vessels and less blood supply and infection is more common. Did I worry about it? No. I knew it could happen. I'm dealing with packing the wound daily and keeping it covered. Another incision has begun to open up more with every shower because it gets wet and the scab loosens up and then it opens up because it's vertical just above my belly button -- and it over an area which gets a lot of stress.
Would I do it again? You bet! In a heartbeat.
Tonight I ate too fast and didn't chew my food well enough. It came back up. Let me tell you I won't do that again! It hurt being too full but throwing it up felt so much better. Do I plan to do that again? Heck no! I'll know that if I have to leave at a certain time, not to rush eating -- especially chicken.
Good luck with your decision.

Topic: Effexor and lap band
Hi all,
Is there anyone out there that was on any meds for anxiety or depression and had the lap band. I take effexor for anxiety and it is time released and can not be opened and mixed with anything. What did you do?? Is there another drug that works the same and can be crushed or opened?? Help!!!

Hello Deborah,
Looks like we will be sharing a surgery date. I am having my surgery that morning with Dr. David Dyer in Nashville. I've decided that this liquid diet is not as bad as I had feared. Don't know about weight loss, but I really haven't been overly hungry. Having lots of leg cramps, muscle and joint aches for some reason, but I guess that just goes with the territory. Hope your surgery goes well and we'll be sharing that loser's bench in just a few short days. Looking forward to a happier, healthier future. Best of luck to you. Kathy
