Topic: RE: Finally A Post-Opper
One thing that makes me drink more water is if I'm drinking out of a glass that I like. This may sound silly, but it makes a difference to me. I like drinking out of a glass made of glass, not plastic, with a thin rim. I have these fancy water goblets that match my wine glasses and enjoy the feeling of drinking water out of them.
Also, figure out if you like room-temp water or cool. At work, I have an insulated mug with a lid that keeps my water cool, which I like.
Good luck.
Topic: RE: Losing 1 pound a day...is this normal?
Hello,
The evening of my surgery I was only allowed ice chips. The next morning was liquid diet and by lunch I was on pureed diet and I am not sure how long that one will last but I am sick of pureed foods (2 weeks is enough). My doctor is Dr. Needleman at Ohio State University in Columbus. He has done an excellent job! He has done his part, now I have to do mine!
I am glad to hear that I am not the only one losing weight at such an alarming rate. I was prepared to lose 1-3 pounds per week but delighted to be losing much more!
Good Luck to everyone!

Your Mom is right! Give yourself a break... you just had major surgery! You're not going to feel up to par, let yourself rest. I put my dog in a dog resort - I know it's not that easy with kids... but maybe get some more help with them if you can. You need to be relaxing. Take it easy, some days are up, some I need to rest more. Just listen to your body.
Topic: RE: vegetarian and bypass, what will i eat?????????
I'm not a vegetarian, but I've been eating like one so far post op. I have vegetarian refried beans, smashed soy meatballs, soy milk, soy products are common after bypass, because a lot of people are lactose intolerant right after surgery. Those are only a couple of examples, but you can do it.
Topic: RE: Hi Everyone...
Hi Annie! Your post was several days ago, so I am hoping you're feeling better! Had my RNY on 9/13 and the only terrible nausea I felt was for 24 hrs after surgery. They had to give me injections because it was so bad. I don't do narcotics very well it seems as the minute they took me off the morphine, I started to feel better! My plan had me on full liquids for days 2-11 post-op, then I advanced to thin puree, which will go through day 28. I've had discomfort from trying to eat too much and/or too fast, but nothing has lodged yet because I'm smooshing or pureeing everything that hits my mouth! My blood pressure has dropped very low and my energy level seems to have been affected. Doc says he can't just take me off the med, so we are in the process of weaning me. With that, the bp should come back up along with the energy level. So, I feel like a pile of pooh waiting for the energy to come back and can hardly wait to get back to work (crazy, I know). I'm just not used to all this down-time! Hopefully your "unpleasant" experiences lessen and normal routines start to settle in. Good things lie ahead for us! Take care ~ Kim
Topic: 1 yr post op
Hi Everyone, Well Oct 2 will be my 1 year anniversary of my RNY surgery. I started at a sz 26 and 277 lbs and am now 147 and a sz 10/12. I like being this size so I have actually started adding back higher carb snacks and extra meals to try and maintain my sz 12. My health is so much better and I am very happy with the current results of my surgery.
For those of you just getting started hang in their, its worth it.

Linda, I'm Linda, too -- I had my surgery on Monday, 9/17. I have noticed that I've been "head hungry," thinking about having something to eat when I'm at the computer or watching TV, but really not hungry in my stomach. I'm having a hard time tolerating milk - I fear I may be lactose intolerant! Very hard to have those protein shakes when you can't tolerate the milk. And everything has a nasty aftertaste. I can taste the artificial sweeteners and it's not good!
I had a lot of energy to start off, but I'm getting fatigued a lot easier now. I wasn't sleeping at night, either, but last night had a full sleep without the help of a sleep aid. Then today, in the afternoon, I started to feel weak. Even after 'eating,' I don't feel any energy. I have to work on upping my protein, I think.
Best wishes!

im not a vegetarian but i know that meat is the last thing that my doctor wants me to eat, not till 6 weeks after. so you can have soft stuff like cream of weat, oatmeal, mashed potatoes, etc. the only thing that i eat so far that is dairy has been a little cottage cheese and my doctor doesnt even want me to eat to much dairy. There are plenty of things. sorry if that doesnt cover everything, i dont know the specifics of being a vegetarian.
