Topic: RE: checking with with September surgeries
Hello Holly and all. I am glad someone started this thread. I had GB on 9/25. Blessed to date with normal recovery and doing well. I do have to remind myself to sip and not gulp however at times. I look forward to this particular board being a good support for me and will do the best I can to do my part of the deal. My first goal of the week is to get my profile up to date. Hope to have it done by the end of the weekend. My one week surgiversary is tomorrow and will be the first time I will weigh. . My expectations are not too high as my b/p was low most of the time in the hospital and I had IV fluids going a a fast rate most of the time and I felt puffy when I got home. I am tolerating liquids and getting my 60+gms of protein and at least 64 oz. of fluid in a day, plus walking 3-4 times a day about a half mile each. The weather has been perfect here in Kansas City MO for recovery. OK "Team 9/07" Let's support each other through what ever this journey has to give us!!!!! Jackie

Katie, Sorry to hear about your rough start. you might try some of the materity approaches to nausea with the anti-nausea wristbands. Can't hurt at this point. my friend used them with each pregnancy and it made a world of difference.

Hi all you September babies! Just checking in to see how you are all doing now that it is a new month! I hope you are all sipping, moving and losing and feeling good doing it! I am about 2 1/2 weeks out and feel great, except for this extreme exhaustion I seem to have every day. I am eating really, really small meals of healthy food, no vomiting, foamies or things getting stuck. How are all of you doing, let's check in and start supporting each other! Holly

I'm sorry your feeling so terribly. I'm afraid I don't have any advice, but maybe a little encouragement? My nutritionist said something pre-op that has stuck with me... "Remember the hand you're dealt is not the hand you'll be stuck with for the rest of the game." Her point was that though things may be tough at first, it will get better! Good luck. Keep us posted.

Katie: From what I understand, your situation is not the norm and I'm sorry to hear that your recovery is less than pleasant. I hope that you're in constant contact with your medical team as they are the ones that will see you through this difficult time. I had about 24 hours of extreme nausea right after surgery. Three injections later, it finally subsided. I haven't had any difficulty since then. This could be a long shot but did they ask you about what you're eating/drinking? I've heard that some folks develop a dairy intolerance after surgery, which could contribute to the ill-feeling you are having. I'm just throwing suggestions out there cuz given your symptoms, it's really hard telling what the culprit could be. You had no way of knowing your body would be one that would react like this, so try not to beat yourself up for the decision you made. Hopefully the nausea is resolved soon and you will then experience the good side of the decision. My thoughts are with you ~ kim

Topic: Drinking Fast
How fast should I be able to drink 16 ounces of liquid? I was told that I would only be able drink very slowly. It seems to me that I can drink 16-20 ounces of liquid in about 5 minutes. Is this fast or about what it should take?

Topic: HELP! NEED ADVICE!!
I had my surgery 3 weeks ago and things have not been going well. First I had to stay 6 days in the hospital instead of 3 because I was having severe pain and nausea. In these 3 weeks, I have also been to the ER for fluids and tests to make sure everything is ok. I have been experiancing severe nausea and have just recently received nausea medication which does help take the edge off. Now I am having trouble getting my fluids and protien down. I just don't know what to do. Everytime I take a drink I feel crappy! Has anyone else experianced this? For so long? I feel like it is never ending. -- I can not stop thinking why I even did this to myself. Please- I need help/advice. Katie

Topic: RE: Heart Rate after surgery
I had trouble after eating certain protein shakes. My heart would pound (I didn't actually take a heart rate, but it felt like it was pounding) for about 15 min. after eating it. At first we thought the shakes were too high in sugar, but they're not (like 4g carb, 2 g sugar), then thought it might be the caffeine in chocolate flavor, but that also only results in inconsistent heart-pounding. Once, when I ate tomato soup with a dollop of yogurt in it too fast, my heart pounded afterward, too. Still trying to figure it out.
