Topic: RE: HELP! NEED ADVICE!!
Katie,
I am so sorry you having these problems. I am most concerned that you may not be getting in all your fluids which could make the problem even worse. Have you contacted your surgeon yet? If not please do. Depending on what type of protein shake you are doing, could you be intolerant of it since surgery(lactose intolerant for example). Are you doing plain water, if so you can try some sugar free flavorings in it, that might help. Is there pain when you drink, if so...call your doctor now!
This will all end and you will feel better!
Good luck and keep us posted here how you are doing. We all care about you.

Because you are able to drink that much, doesn't mean you should...The best analogy I got was imagine your pouch is now a funnel, you can put a lot of liquid in the wide opening, but then it slowly drains out the skinny end. If you are putting more in than can drain you may be risking stretching out your little pouch so early on. Remember, the nerves to tell you if you are full or not have been cut, so you may not be feeling the "I've had enough" sensation yet. My nut and surgeon said to get 8 to 10 ounces in every hour.
This is just my opinion and please contact your team for their guidelines.
Good luck.

Hi Alanis!
Congrats on the 16 pounds!! That is awesome! How long does it take you to walk your 2 miles, I find I run out of steam after about 30 minutes still.
I have another week or so before I can start back with my "real" workout, my surgeon doesn't want me to overdo it and risk a hernia yet!
Have a blessed Tuesday!

Hi Jackie!
I am thrilled you are doing so well! Don't worry about the first weigh in, you are right, those IVs can be the pits. I think I came home about 5 pounds heavier than when I went in, but it went away really quick! The walking is awesome. I've only been doing it twice a day for 15-30 minutes each the past few days...I have been exhausted, to be expected I guess!
Have a great Tuesday and enjoy the fall weather!

Hi Linda,
I had lap RNY, and am actually on a pretty open food plan right now. The only thing I am not allowed to have is fresh veggies and fruit for another week and a half or so. I was on clear liquids in the hosp. for Fri and Sat. morning, sent home on pureed foods, and last Thursday was released to "real" food. My surgeon doesn't have his patients do protein drinks or bars so we are released to food much quicker.
I am glad you are doing well!

In what everything I have been taught and what I am presently doing is frequent small sips rather than infrequent gulps. Probably better on your belly and better absorbition.

I had my surgery on 9/13/07. I was blessed to come home 2 days after surgery. I have not had any complication. I also had my two week visit with my doctor and I have lost 16lbs so far. I am so happy. I can walk 2 miles everyother day. I am doing well. My the angels bless me and everyone.
Yeah, I can start going back to the gym.

I was wondering the same thing. I can drink somewhere between 90-110oz of water a day with no problems. Of course Im not gulpping it down. But I sure can drink with ease. Its been like this for the past 2weeks, and I just had my surgery 3 weeks ago(9/11). I hope someone can answer this.

Kathline,
Thanks for taking the time to post on the 9/07 Board. It just great to have all the inspirational story's to make this all truly seem real and not just a dream. I feel so blessed to have been given a chance to get the RNY as a tool and am going to use it to very best of my advantage and will promise to post next year on the 9/08 board as you did for me.

Eric,
You know I haven't really timed it, but what I have found is that I really have to make a conscious effort to take smaller sips, vs. my usual larger gulps ( as I now reflect). I notice this in 2 areas.
1. When drinking water I used to be a gulper especially when returning from a walk.
2. When drinking some of the protein shakes, I would drink them fast just to get them over with...........can't really do that now. SIGH. I am dealing with it, just something I have noticed. I am still on all full liquids for another week. looking forward to some chewing time.
Had RNY on 9/25.
