Topic: RE: checking with with September surgeries
I had my surgery on Sept 4th the first two weeks i thought everything was ok and i ended having a second surgery for a bowel obstruction. Since then i feel miserable. I had to go back to the hospital on Oct 2nd because i was thorwing up I got released on Oct 5th and all this weekend out of the three meals i have to eat one I end up throwing it back out . Now i been feeling pain right under my left breast I guess that is where my new stomach or old stomach is. I have lost 34 pounds but i'm so unhappy. I can't drink all my water ,If i drink 10 oz of water a day I'm lucky. The protein drinks are also not staying in. I tried the isopure before surgery and had no problems ,now I can't even keep 2 oz down. I see my doctor tomorrow and he had already told me that I had some adhesions in my intestines and I know he's going to possibly do a third surgery. I feel like this was the biggest mistake of my life and wish I could reverse it. I have no energy of course , I go to a store pick up what I need and leave since I get tired and dizzy . I can't even drive yet. I don't know what else to do or to try to get my protein and get more water in. I'm so discouraged right now. Wanda

This is how my surgeon explained it to me: The first week or two....your stomach has undergone manipulation and a few stiches, so it is swollen and therefore probably felt more 'full' then. However now....your stomach is getting back to normal. You do not have any "FILL" in yet....so really,....your band is just hanging there. So...it feels like you ARE hungry cause the lap band is not really doing any thing right now! In two weeks though...when you get your first fill....you will be back to the feeling you had in week one! From that point on....that is the feeling you want, and should expect. If it is not feeling like that...then you need to go back for another fill. I also had my lap-band surgery put in on 9/21/07. Like you....I am stopping eating not because I am full...but because I am trying to build good habits. But I am sticking with it! The other things he mentioned is to 1) eat my protein first and 2) do NOT DRINK anything with my meal....to wait 1 full hour AFTER a meal to drink (this keeps you from washing your food through the system). YES....I am still hungry right now....but I have my first FILL scheduled and am patiently waiting!!! Hang in there!!! We will be skinny yet!!!

Kathy, Nine days after my surgery I had my preop appt. and I too only lost 3 lbs.. However, my surgeon told me that I had many liters of fluid pumped into me which totaled about 10 extra lbs. Therefor stating that I was 10 lbs heavier going home than coming in. With in the next 3-4 days the scale showed a 10 lb weight loss. I had my surgery on 9-12-07 and am down 26 lbs. Good luck and stay positive.

I am right there with all of you. I was told about the excessive gas and the foul odor prior to surgery. However, I can get totally debilitated by the gas. I too take gas x, but I also drink hot tea. This helps me alot. I was in agony for 12 hrs with gas pain. I took 2 gas x and nothing, took 2 more and felt girgles. After having hot tea on top of all of this I was able to pass gas and burp it out. (tmi but on topic).

I had my Lap Band on 9-21-07....I have been the perfect patient. I have eaten just as instructed and I have lost 18 pounds....BUT, I do not feel full. I do not feel the need to stop eating. I feel like I could eat as much as before. I have forced myself to stop eating after a relatively small amount but I am hungry. I feel my stomach growling. Please tell me I am not going to be the one person this does not work for!!!!

I will be 2 weeks out tomorow and down 14lbs (23 total). I have been very lucky with no problems. I have felt very tired, although my mom said she was having trouble keeping up with me the last few days she was with me. I have 2 little ones, so mom flew out to be with me for 2 weeks. Today was my first day alone, they just about killed me! All is good, I can't wait for my clothes to be to big! -Naomi

Hello everybody - good to meet you all. I'm two weeks out from my lap RNY of 9/24 and doing pretty well, I think. I was in the hospital for three nights and have had no post-op complications. I'm still a little sore in the tummy, but almost off all pain meds. I've progressed from clear liquids to pureed foods and not having any problems with food. My DH and I are walking 20 mins or so every day and today I got on my exercise bike for a 15 min ride as well. I'm sorry some of you are having fatigue issues, but I'm glad to read it, because I thought it was just me! I know I wouldn't be ready to go back to work yet, or they'd find me sleeping at my desk in the afternoon! I weighed today and am down 14 lbs. which makes me pretty happy. I know I have to stop weighing myself daily, but it is such a thrill at this point to see that scale number going down. Best wished to the rest of the Sept surgery crowd. What a bunch of losers! Hope you are all feeling stronger every day! Thanks for starting this thread, Holly!

Robin, Congrats on your surgery! I am very glad you are feeling better, the first week is tough. I still get tired and now I am 3 1/2 weeks out, it is weird not being able to do stuff I am used to. Keep in touch, let us know how you are doing. Holly
