Topic: Stretched Pouch
My surgery was 9/18/07. I have slowly been able to eat more at one sitting. I am trying to keep the portion size in line. How much are you all eating in one day? I do not eat until I am uncomfortably full, but I am afraid of stretching my pouch.

I don't really think "What did I do?" but "Why the heck didn't I do it sooner!?" I'm 12 weeks out (tomorrow) and I'm down over 52 lbs in those 12 weeks; over 85 lbs from my highest weight. I'm STILL super morbidly obese at 281 (@ 5'1"), but gosh I feel SO much better. Has it been a struggle? Some days definitely. I can get my exercise -- I go to the pool at 6:00 am each morning before work. So that's done. I drink water. However, 80 oz is a pipe dream most days. I'm consistently getting 48 oz. Some days 64 oz and on the rare day 80 oz. Supplements: I get my Prevacid daily, I get my B complex daily, I get ONE dose of vitamins daily, and I get at least 500 mg calcium daily. HOWEVER, I'm supposed to do vitamins 2x/day and 1500 mg calcium daily. I take my B-12 every other day even though it's supposed to be weekly. Food? That's where I'm really falling down! I am supposed to eat 2x/day 6 hours apart, no drink +/- 30 minutes nor during. However, I can't eat much -- maybe 3 oz of protein. That's only about 40 g protein for the day. Now I've been told to add in a protein shake daily (25 g protein) to increase my protein intake. I'm having to create a checklist for me for each day to make sure I get everything in. I probably ought to just make up enough sheets for now until my appointment on December 10th so that I have them to document what I'm doing and we can assess what needs changing. Susan

You're doing nothing wrong. It's just a "stall" that you're in. I did the same thing 3 weeks out for 2 weeks. I'm now almost 12 weeks out (tomorrow) and I'm down over 52 lbs since surgery and over 85 lbs total. Be patient. Continue your exercise. Continue your liquids. Continue your protein. Take your supplements. It WILL come off. Susan

Topic: RE: Carbs - How Many Per Day?
I recently saw the doctor and I'm down to 272 from a pre-surgery weight of 337. He seemed satisfied. Since, the scale started moving again, I guess I'm doing something right. I told my doctor that I don't seemed to be filled when I eat a meal, but that I do stop. I don't usually feel hungry afterward. He upped my intake from 2 oz to 4 oz, 4 times a day. I'm trying to work out a schedule to include some snacks. My blood sugar will drop low if I wait too long between eating. As you can see from Mary's response, we all seem to get differing instructions from our nuts. Mine has told me to stay under 10 fat and sugar grams. Not to worry about carbs. So, please talk to your nuts. I certainly don't want to tell you wrong. I hope your weight has started coming off again.

Topic: RE: Constipation?
My surgeon recommends using Mirilax. It used to be a prrescription but now it is over-the-counter. It is a powder that dissolves in any liquid. It is safe to take every day and helps regulate your bowels. My sister had a lot of problems initially with constipation too. Now she is over a year out, and things have seemed to become normal. Good luck. Lisa

Topic: RE: HELLO ALL OF MY SEPT. LOOSERS!!
I had my RNY surgery on 9/11. I tried chinese food for the first time last week. I had chicken chop suey and asked the cook to make it without corn starch. It was basically chicken, bean spouts, carrots, mushrooms and celery and I tolerated it very well. I was able to get 3 servings from a small pint size container. I haven't tried pasta, rice or bread yet. I did have a small amount of stuffing for thankgivings and I tolerated it well. I am down 34 pounds since surgery. The pounds are coming off slow, but I'm down from a size 24 to 16. I feel blessed. Measure yourself weekly and watch the inches melt. Be Blessed! Mary Ward

My nutritionist told me not to count carbs, but to count fat and sugar grams. No food over 5 grams of fat and 3 grams of refined sugar. I've noticed that foods low in refined sugars are generally lower in carbs. You are doing fine. I too had a plateau. I just started to lose weight again after being on a plateau for almost one month. I was worried that I had messed up too, but my body was readjusting. I'm now 2 pounds from my 1st goal of 199#. Hang in there! You will be very proud of yourself soon. Be Blessed! Mary Ward
