Hi all....
I feel like I have a million questions that I wanted to ask my doc or nutritionist. But I decided to try this route instead (ie, drawing from a community of others going through the same stuff). I've already had SO many questions alleviated just by reading your posts. So THANKS a ton! :-D
Just thought I'd say hey and say that I already appreciate your help.

Topic: help me
Hey it has been a year and a half since I have had my surgery, I have had a lot going on but first drum roll please.... I am down to 115 lbs!!!!! I have had the best experience with my surgery I really am a new person!
I have changed my life completely I am going back to school to be a certified wellness instructor! I want to be a personal trainer specifically to help others who are going through the Gastric Bypass surgery.
This is why I need your help. I am doing a final project and I need someone who is around 6 weeks or so out from their surgery. I believe that is when the Dr. said that is when he will give a medical release for someone to start on a physical fitness program.
I have a project due that I need immediate help with but also I am trying to design my program and need to do a little recherché and get helpful input.
If you're interested in getting some free personal Training advice and don't mind being my guinea pig then please help me!!!!

Thanks for the suggestion. I am going to Wal-Mart soon and I'll be sure to check that out.
Topic: RE: How's everyone Weight Loss & eating going?
Surgery Date 9/23/2007
Pre-Op: 268.5
Today: 218
Lost: 50.5 lbs
I'm also having a very difficult time getting in my protein. I drink lots of skim milk and at least 90% of my food is protein. My energy level is still pretty low, I'm sure de to the lack of protein. I am slowly adding solid foods to my diet. I was on liquids for 2 wks, pureed for 4 weeks, and soft/adaptive for 2 weeks and counting. Beans are my best friends. No starches/carbs at all really, they just do not sit well at all. I'm eating maybe 3-4 tbsp of food at a meal.
I'm a work in progress, but the 50 lbs lost in just 2 months, means no regrets at all!

Hi Carol
You know Hawaiian Punch has a suger free version similar to Crystal Light and it's very good. It's only .99 cents in Walgreens. Kool Aid also has a sugar free version that is good too. I actually like the Cherry Limeade by Walmart really tasty.
Good luck with those fluids girl !!!
Topic: RE: Stretched Pouch
Ya know I think we all think that we have strecthed our pouches. I know over Thanksgiving I was depressed thinking that I had blew everything. My nut told me that no one food is best and encouraged me to intorduce more textured high protien foods BUT I am so comfortable eating chicken salad, turkey salad, egg salad, salmon, tuna, Talapia, cottage cheese and yougurt. All of these things are of the same texture (soft and easy to chew) sometimes I find myself eating the same thing over and over. When I ate the heavier foods over the holiday I definently felt the difference. I felt it going down YUCK !!! and figured I was busting my throat esophgas and stomach out lol !!! This was after about 60 chews !!!
Keep the faith we are all thinking along the same lines.
Topic: RE: Stretched Pouch
Thanks Kelly, that does help. I did hear that is it not easy to stretch your pouch, but it still is a worry that I have. I hope you are healing well too!! Thank you
Topic: RE: Stretched Pouch
I don't measure my food, but I have noticed in the last couple of weeks that I can eat a bit more than before. I think it is just due to my pouch healing. I watch not to eat too much, and one thing I really can tell a difference in is how much I can drink. Getting enough fluids is not a chore anymore.
I read in one of the things my doctor gave me that at first, right after surgery, the pouch is like a chamois that is dry, doesn't stretch much, then at a couple of months it is more like a chamois that has gotten wet and stretches some, and then at about six months it is a like a saturated chamois, supple. It doesn't mean it's stretched just healed. That helped me understand it better. I know you can stretch your pouch, but I don't think it something to worry about at this point, at least for me. Hope you are healing well and losing steadily.
