Topic: RE: Definitely losing my hair now
I'm losing mine too. Handfuls in the shower and in the brush after styling. I can't keep the bathroom floor hair-free! My hair is thick so I hope I stop losing it before I lose it all!
Topic: RE: What did you loose in 2007?
In 2007, I lost a total of 67 pounds, 24 preop and 43 postop (RNY 9/17/07). I bought my first pair of pants in a regular size (16) last week. That's a "Misses 16," not a "Plus 16!" I've been in plus sizes for about 20 years, so that was a huge WOW moment for me. More importantly, I lost the blood pressure medication, knee pain, back pain and prediabetes. I also lost my desire to hide under a rock where no one could see me because I was so self-conscious about the way I looked
Happy New Year!
Topic: What did you loose in 2007?
Hello Sept. Surgery Buddies. Happy New Year.
I thought I would start a post to see who would respond, just for fun.
You can list whatever it is that you feel like you have as far as losses for 2007. The list can contain pounds, bad habbits. bad foods or any good good habits you have found along the way.
I am Jackie and had RNY on 9/25 I have:
Lost...........
Total of 80 pounds, 40 post-op
My triple chin
Obsession with food
My size 22, 20, 18 clothing
My role of being responsible for holding the couch in place
I am off my High blood pressuremeds. and high cholesterol meds.
Lost my need to have my car drive through drive-thru's
Found.....
Loosing weight before surgery made for a great recovery
Following the rules does work. Protein is my friend I do best with 2 shakes a day.
Water was difficult immed.post-op, but it is so nice now to be able to take a nice big drink.
I really need to exercise.......and it won't kill me..and I feel better
I love clothes even more than before.
I feel more at peace with everything.
I don't dump, but wish I did. But know I still have to have control

Topic: RE: Are you still sipping your fluids?
I think that winter and the colder weather is affecting our thirst, thus making it more difficult to get our 64oz of water in a day. I'm averaging about 32 to 48ozs a day now, not counting the other liquids I am drinking, coffee, non-fat milk, etc. But I also have noticed the dry skin and chapped lips. Can't wait for the warm weather again. I am FREEZING this winter.

Ok, I need to chime in again. My hair is still falling out and I can easily fill up my hair brush. I did want to comment on the texture. My hair is feeling dry and straw like so I'm giving up and tomorrow I am getting a hair cut.
We need to hang in there. It will stop eventually. I try to remain positive and just think about the 80lbs I've lost so far.
Topic: RE: Definitely losing my hair now
I just found this board and am so glad!
I am 3 months out today. I don't notice any more hair loss than usual, but I am thinking it's right around the corner. I do, however, notice a major change in the texture. My hair is pin straight and usually feels pretty soft and healthy. It's been incredibly dry lately, almost like straw. All I need now if for it to start falling out, haha.
I guess it's a small price to pay for this amazing gift that we have all received!

Not to jinx myself, but I don't seem to be losing hair at all. I even have been grabbing handfuls and giving it a tug to see if any come loose. I think the fact that my hair is very short (less than 3"), thick, and chemical and process free has alot to do with that. The stress of the surgery combined longer fragile and/or damaged hair cannot be a good thing.
OK, after posting this I'm sure that tomorrow am I'll wake up Michael Jordan bald!
Topic: RE: Soda & straws....:help:
Soda: I was under the impression that ideally (and that's my goal) to NEVER drink carbonated beverages again. The carbonation stretches your pouch! Knowing this, I weaned myself off of them starting back in June when I started the process of getting approved. I knew if I waited till surgery, and then suddenly couldn't have them anymore, it would be much harder! I have replaced Coke with a much healthier friend - Luzianne decaf tea sweetened w/ Splenda. If I'm out, I get unsweetened tea and sweeten it with S&L.
Straws: the method behind the madness of straws is that you take in extra air when drinking through a straw. However, I was having a horrible time directly post-op. Every time I would drink, even sips, it would hurt. I found if I drank through a straw, I took smaller sips and it didn't hurt. I would suc****il the liquid came up, hold my tongue over the straw and blow out the air, then drink... trying to avoid the extra air. I talked to my doctor about it and he said if that helped, go ahead and do it.
I do much better now and don't always have to drink through a straw, but sometimes still do (like if I'm out on the run!)
