i know what you mean about the samples cause that is what i am doing now. i was told to try and see in the health food stores. i got some samples from my dr office and i have only tried one and i dont really like tht one, got three more to try so i hope i like one of them. i think that as long as i put my mind to it i will be able to not eat anything while on the protein diet and the good part of it is that the kids will be in school so i wont have anything to tempt me during the day. wish you luck....
Topic: Anyone getting "scared"?
It's not that I'm afraid anything bad will happen, but it's a bit scary to realize that in 24 days I'm going to have my intestines cut up and re-routed for life.
Last night I had a protein shake for dinner. Today I'm going to eat breakfast and then protein shakes for the rest of the day. Then Monday - Wednesday will be shakes for breakfast/lunch with a sensible dinner. Starting August 16th, I go on full fast (shakes only).
My doctor only requires 2 weeks, but I know that if I don't "ease" into the meal replacement, I hate being hungry, my temper gets really short, and I have the hardest time not "cheating". (I've done six months of liquid protein diet before -- and I lost only 40 lbs.) I just hope that I can lose some weight before my appointments on August 23rd and 29th. I've been in a stall for over six weeks now and it's very frustrating that my body seems to want to be 350 lbs!!
My goal is to be 340 lbs (or lower) by August 23rd and 330 lbs (or lower) by August 29th. I'd love to be no more than 225 when I go in for surgery on September 5th.
I worry that I won't do well. I worry that the full-fast is going to be too hard for me. I worry that I'll be too successful.
Any one else?

Congrats of finally getting a surgery date. It sure can be a long process! It is nice that your insurance will cover most of the cost of the surgery. Even though you are taking more than a thousand out of pocket, that really is not too bad considering how much the surgery costs. My mother had the surgery just over a year ago, and her insurance did not cover it at all. The surgery cost her 23,000 plus an additional 8,400 due to complications.
Movies sound like a great idea. Oh,my favorite girly movie is "the notebook" if you haven't seen that one before-it is quite good!
I am schedualed for surgery the 12th! Feel free to email me when you are in your hotel if you need someone to talk to.
By the way- I am scared too. As great as this surgery is, it is still surgery! One day I am so excited and the next I am scared again! Just think about how your life is going to change for the better! It will be ok!
Good luck

My doctor has me go back at 1 week, 2 weeks, 6 weeks, 3 months, 6 months, and 12 months.
I've done liquid protein diet for 6 months before (lost about 40 lbs total -- back when I only weighed 250 to start with), so I can do two or three weeks. That's a walk in the park (I hope).
What I need to find out is if there is a place locally I can get sample sizes of the protein(s) I want to try before ordering a 2 lb canister of something that I may not like!

That is amazing! My mother had Gastirc Bypass just about a year ago and she has lost over 100 pounds. It has really changed her life, and her attitude!
Enjoy your weekend!
