Hello Chickita,
I completely know what you are talking about, about trying it on your own I think that is why we are all here. I am very thankful that this group is here.
Yes I was reading alot too and I had to make myself stop. I can't look at the bad as I do not know what the situation was. I can only look at me and hope that because I am in good health that I will be ok.
Congrats on the 8lbs loss. That is great!
Keep in touch,
Heather

Hi Heather:
Yes I am having Lap RNY. I guess the diet requirement varies my doctor. Anyway, I'm doing it on my own just to get a jump start and to be in the best shape possible for surgery.
Like you, I am excited and nervous. Some days I get a little scared... like today because I read so many posts about complications and additional surgeries. I have to keep reminding myself that these are just a few cases and that the majority are ok.
Also, today when I got on the scale and saw the 8 lb loss I caught myself wondering if I couldn't just do it without surgery. But NO, I've done this too many times... I always get off program and gain back the weight. This is the right choice for me.
Keep in touch,
Chickita

Hi Robin: No, I don't have to do anything - unless he gives me a diet at the pre-op appointment. But, I am "trying" the various protein drinks. So far I've tried AdvantEDGE from Sams (it's ok) and today I tried a protein powder with my crystal lite (semi-yuckky). Are you having any luck with protein drinks?

Topic: Second Chance
Hello, I am writing this today to let everyone know that I am going to have a second chance at a Gastric Bypass Roux-en-y. On Dec. of 2000 I had a normal Gastric bypass surgery done here at Rhode Island Hospital. Now, don't think I am going to bash the doctor he did nothing wrong in this story. What happened to me was a complication that can come about. Maybe 1:10000 or so from what I have been told.
I was 550 pre-op and after I had the gastric bypass I dropped to 200 pounds. So far so good so I thought. About 6 months after I met my wife to be. I got really really sick and I wasn't able to hold anything down. The doctors told me that my belly has a problem and anything I take in makes it mad so to stop eating for a time. Well after I got better I noticed that I was eating more and cut down on the intake of food. About a month later I noticed that my pants were not fitting as well as they did. So I went to the doctors. They found out that my gastric pouch is what it should be and hasn't changed at all its 7 to 8 cm. But what has changed is the stoma that links the pouch to the intestine. It is also 8 cm and is stuck open. This is caused by the swelling that I had with the sickness. The stoma never recovered from all of the swelling. So now what ever I eat doesn't stay in my pouch it goes right into my intestine.
But there is good news. I just saw a doctor today that can fix me. His name is Dr. Goodman and he is out of NJ and also NY. He deals with patients that have had gastric bypass and is gaining weight back due to a medical or A&P problem with the body. He's a good man and if you are thinking about having the surgery talk to him. He takes new patients that have had or are having problems from an old Gastric bypass surgery or someone that is wanting it for the first time.
This man is going to be fitting me into his surgical rotation within about 1 month. He is a blessing. Now I will be able to watch my kids grow up and no worry about them having to put me in the ground when I am in my late 30s. Look him up here on obesityhelp.com or you are more than welcome to email me at [email protected]
If you have any questions email and I will get back to you.
