Tabitha: Thanks for the info about the clot filter. I never heard of it, but very interesting and definitely is life-saving technology!
Worry will happen, we just need to try and keep it from driving us crazy and our blood pressures up :-) If my surgery slot is later in the day, I have my massage therapist on call for a morning facial, hand, & foot massage...that will certainly help me relax a bit :spin: Looking forward to exchanging updates

Hi Michelle! I definitely feel your excitement :-D We have the same date - yahoo! I'm trying to do something everyday to prepare both pre & post op. So, what type of pre-op diet are you following? They didn't prescribe me any special diet, so I'm on my own trying to lose the minimum five pounds they've asked me to lose. I chose low-fat with a lot of fresh fruits & veggies, which should also help with the day-before cleansing :haha: I hope you're doing well in getting ready.
I'm crazy excited! Keep me posted on your progress 8-) ~ KimmyGee

Sara: I'm the day after you, and yes, I'm feeling most of what you're feeling. It's a life-changing decision that we have made, which will unearth many emotions, even grief. I'm sure this is why the psychologist visit(s) is a requirement for us, to be sure we are prepared for the very drastic changes that we will go through, not only physically, but mentally as well. But hey, it can only get better, right? And I can not wait! I hope you have supportive family & friends to see you through these crazy couple of weeks before the surgery. My co-workers are so excited for me that they are hugging on me every day! Goof-balls - but I love 'em :-D
Take care and keep in touch. ~~ KimmyGee

The filter is a little metal cage looking device that is inserted into an artery in your upper thigh and pushed up into a major artery in your abdomen. I believe this is similar to a heart catheterization, I'm not sure though. They have a sample filter in the doctor's office that is inside a plastic cube so that you can see what it looks like. It will be inside a tube that goes through the artery and when released it expands into a sort of diamond shape. It is supposed to catch any blood clots and hold them there until they dissolve on their own. It will be taken out on 10/4. Here is a website that explains the filter and has a picture of the older style, the newer one is all connected together in a sort of diamond shape. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Inferior_vena_cava_filter
Thanks for the suggestions for the morning of the surgery, no matter what I am doing I will still be worrying though. Please keep me posted on your progress too. I'll keep in touch.

Does your surgeon know you're a smoker? I hope you have quit already - if not I'd let your surgeon know. If you follow their instructions on smoking you'll be fine. There is a certain amount of time before each surgery they want you to not smoke. Be sure to listen, because it is very important.
Good luck!
