Topic: RE: Prep????
Holy crap! I went on a high protein only diet in July per the surgeons instructions and lost 23 lbs as of Aug 24th and I started a 10 day pre-op liquid diet last Tues the 28th. I've probably lost another 10 to 15 lbs since the 24th I'm sure. I'll probably be -40 down before my surgery on Friday, all of this because I'm a guy? And I have to shrink my liver before surgery? You all are getting off easy, consider yourself lucky, my surgeon is STRICT with a capital T! Darn, what I would give for a piece of string cheese or a chicken breast right now. Sheesh.

I quit smoking 20 years ago, but my friend who had the surgery did have to be off the cigs for 2 months prior. Doc & team warned her that if she even smelled of smoke the day of her surgery, they would cancel. Not sure what it involved, but I guess they also could have tested her that morning for recent tobacco use, just to be sure she complied. My thought is to 'fess up...my doc warned me of all the potential complications if I were to start back up afterwards (discussed because of the prior history). My friend thought she wanted to start back up after the surgery, but she became so ill when she lit one up, that it became the definite end to a difficult habit to break -- been there, done that. I wish you well :-) ~ KimmyG

No diet prep for me, but they did ask me to try and lose five or more pounds if possible using any healthy process. I do believe it has to do with your size and wear you are carrying a lot of the weight, such as belly versus butt. I need to do the colon cleanz, but I'd rather do it before surgery than to try and get the crap (literally) out afterwards  Funny thing is, that despite many of us having the same type of surgery, we are all very different in many kinds of ways and so are our doctors/surgeons and how they care for us. We can only hope that we have made the best possible decision when it comes to the team we have chosen to help change our lives. I would never have chosen one doctor over another simply to avoid some of the unpleasantries associated with getting prepared, but of course, that's just me and my very humble opinion :-)
My very best wishes to you for a speedy recovery and smooth transition! ~ KimmyG

Hi Angela, PLEASE make sure that your docs know that you are a smoker...i smoke, and my doc said that as long as they know they can account for it when doing the anesthia... in this case, honesty is the best policy!

Topic: RE: RU Exercising to GET READY????
I am walking / running(intervel) 3 to 4 time a week. 3 miles a day. I also do some core exercise on the ball. When I can not get out side because of the weather. (HOT/HUMIDY). I have a dvd of walking a mile in your home. I usually do the video twice to get in 2 miles. I have lost 10lbs so far and I start my liquid diet tomorrow. My lap RNY surgery is Sept. 13, 07. I can't wait. Good luck to everyone and see less of you in the future.
Peace and Love,
Alanis
