Every surgeon is different. I would have thought that they would have discussed the smoking cessation early. BTW there is a urine test for nicotine. I had to sign something as part of my acceptanct of being in the program that I understood. "Stop smoking. Smoking always injures your stomach and intestines. By agreeing to have surgery, you agree to quit smoking forever and at least 6 weeks before surgery."

I haven't really had any problems with diet. I think yesterday was my hardest day and it was because I went to hang out with some friends and they were all sitting around eating pizza; but I survived the temptation I'm not addicted to soda, but I am having a hard time giving up my powerades/gatorades. I usually drink about 3 bottles a day. That's been the hardest thing to give up. I've been eating low sodium soup, and I've been using white bread for my sandwiches b/c I really don't care for wheat bread, but I've only been eating half a sandwich with each meal. I'm a school teacher, so I've gotta get about 3 weeks worth of lesson plans ready to go for the time that I'll be out of school. That, getting my house in order, and packing up should keep me plenty occupied ( i hope). I'm okay with the date change, it's only one day. At least they didn't call and say we're changing it to a month down the road. mik

Me Too! I'm the first case on Tuesday! And I'm nervous too! But I'm determined, serious and prepared. Good luck to you and I'll remember you in my prayers.

It is normal to be nervous. Just try and focus on the the tremendous change that is about to happen for the rest of your life. Getting your weight off and feeling better. Talk over your concerns with your surgeon and I am sure he/she will be able to ease your mind. Take care and be strong, Karen

That eating plan sounds pretty easy to follow...are you doing ok with it? I almost wish they would have asked me to do something more restrictive, like a liquid diet. At least with that there is some structure! Maybe I'll try what you are doing. Are you using whole wheat bread for your sandwich...and whole or half? Water is not a problem for me, but I do need to work on changing my drinking habit! I'm used to gulping all day long, now I'll need to change that to stop an hour before meals and the after meal rule. At least I'm not addicted to soda, which I understand is very difficult for some folks to give up. I like my morning coffee, but other than tha****er is my beverage of choice, then iced tea. So, are you ok with the date change? Just tacks on one more day of nerves, eh? Hope you have something to keep you occupied until then. My house needs some cleaning, so I decided to work on that every evening next wee****il the big day...it will exhaust me as well as be productive :-D Keep me posted on how you're getting along and hollar if you need help through any challenges. Woohoo...I'm excited for you and me and all of us  :jump: Take care! ~ KimmyG

They don't let you edit on this board for some reason, but yes let your sister know there's a reason they don't want you to smoke. It makes it harder to wake up from anesthesia, and can cause all sorts of problems. 4 months is a long time, but it's best to be safe!
