Topic: RE: Advice on what to include in medical appeal
The insurance is United Healthcare - Mississippi.
And technically, they have not refused coverage.
Any WLS is considered a written exclusion in this policy. However, there is a process through which it can be covered after a medical review (which is why I was getting conflicting information, initially).
So, while this isn't technically an appeal because they've refused, it's an appeal requesting a medical review.

Well, you're not dreaming. Go git-r-done and I'll follow you on Friday and git-r-done as well. Just like old Red said in The Shawshank Redemption, we gotta get busy dying, or get busy living, it's our choice. I can't believe that my five year journey ends in about 60 hours. Holy crap.
Best Wishes tomorrow Mawee
Topic: RE: down to 8 days and EXCITTTTED...............
Gee Mawee, I am officially on the liquid diet. What was the hardest part considering you have made it this far I say you have done it. I think I will miss the chewing. Have you noticed any changes or do you feel different?
Topic: RE: down to 8 days and EXCITTTTED...............
Hi Chundra,
Mawee nailed it right on the head! Listen to your doctor and be prepared by asking questions. The time will go by fast even though I want it here tomorrow. I was just approved weeks ago so the time has gone quickly. Start drinking water and Sugar free drinks or just liquids so you know what you will like and will not like. I bought some soup broths to try out and I liked them all but one so I know not to stock that post op. Right now it is a mental preparation. Good Luck

Hi Chundra, only advise is to do exactly what your doctor tells you to. I'm giving that advise as I sit here on my liquid diet feeling as though I will starve to death. I'm thinking though that this may be the last time I feel hungry from what everyone says I should feel full after surgery! My surgery is Sept 6, just 2 days away!
Topic: RE: Headache/Lack of Sugar & Caffeine
I have just finished this part and started the clear liquids. I too had severe headaches within 3 days of starting that diet. I took 2 tylenol and it got better but never went away completely. Funny thing is I don't have it now and hadn't thought of it, so I don't know when it did go away. Use the tylenol it did help me alot.

Topic: September 6 my date is finally almost here
I have waited for this for about 10 years. Never really thought it would come true! Now here I am sipping jello and water as I am on clear liquids pre-op now. I'm really doing this, somebody pinch me and tell me I'm not dreaming.
Topic: Headache/Lack of Sugar & Caffeine
I'm currently doing the Soup, Salad, Sandwich diet (2 weeks prior to surgery). I've completely cut out all juices, soda, and powerades from my diet. I generally drink about 3 powerades a day plus various juices once I get home from work (never been much of a soda drinker). I've noticed that since I've started this diet I've been getting pounding headaches by the end of the day. Could it be from the lack of sugar/caffeine? My energy level isn't great but I wouldn't say it was drastically different from before the new diet. Any ideas? I'm thinking it's mostly just my body trying to adjust.
Topic: RE: Problems with Protein
So far, I have not. My brother in law had the rny about 4 years ago. He did. If he didn't get his protein in he felt like crap. If he did get it in, kidney stones. Uphill battle.
