Exercising
How is everyone doing with exercise? I know that I would have lost much more weight if I had been exercising all along. I was doing about 4 days a week of walking 30 - 40 minutes, but then my son had basketball games several nights a week, and then the weather got colder and wetter, excuses, excuses, excuses. I even have a tread mill with a TV in it!!! How do I get motivated again. Does anyone have a particular type of exercise that they really enjoy? I am not close enough to go to any water aerobics classes, and I think that I would really enjoy them. I am having a lot of trouble getting myself moving. Does anyone have suggestions?
Hi,
I'm in a rut like you. My weight loss has slowed this last month, so I definitely have to kick it into gear by exercising. I belong to a gym and do weight lifting followed by 30-40 mins of cardio 3-4 times a weeks, but since Christmas I've gotten to the gym probably about 6 times. Tomorrow I'm going to make Mon, Wed, & Fridays my workout days and that has to be the priority. Maybe, I'll set myself a treat like getting a manicure at the end of the week if I go at least 3 times.
Rewarding yourself is a great idea. Perhaps also starting out with a SMALL amount of exercise. A trainer could also help motivate you. Have you tried yoga or pilates? Maybe a karate class? Perhaps there is an enclosed shopping area where you could walk?
I agree, you have to write it into your schedule or it just gets scheduled out. Perhaps you could find a good CD. Even dancing can be fun. Last yr. my husband & I signed up for lessons. Great exercise & lots of laughs. We were so bad that we decided to retake.
I hope this helps. Keep searching until you find something that you actually consider fun & don't want to miss. Watch the paper for free, intro lessons that are offered. A try-out can provide a no-fault opportunity. Sometimes hospitals may offer something, YMCA's, or your gym. As it warms up maybe tennis or golf lessons?
It's a constant struggle for me, too. As the the beach season approaches, walks won't work unless I have a parking pass or go late. It does help when I think of it as "fun."
I belong to a gym. I try to go every day that I can. I take my gym clothes to work with me and change there. If I go home first, then fugetaboutit, I don't end up making it there that day. I usually average between 4-6 times a week. I do weight training at least twice a week. They just put in a circuit training section at the beginning of the year, so I might do that once a week too. The circuit training course takes 30 minutes, so I save that for an evening when I'm short on time. Every time that I go, I also do 30 minutes of cardio, regardless of whether I also did weights. I vary my cardio between the bike, recumbent bike and/or elliptical. I have to say that this only works for me because I have no children at home, and my husband cooks dinner, so I don't have to rush home and do that. I'm very lucky!
Exercising has been my down fall I didn't think that it would be this hard to get it in with all the time that my dsaughter and I were at the pool since surgery I think that I have been there twice. what i did is took up kickboxing my friend had me try a class with her the first on was free and then my daughter decied she wanted to do kidratee so the owner gave me a deal that i could not pass up he said that if i do the kick boxking then he would let my daughter do the kideratee for free what a way to get me of mu butt i just love it they have been great with me and let me go at my passe since i am just learning the one thing that is amazing is that I can do it I can kick and I can do the streaches and my knees don't hurt

My walking slowed down when it got cold in December and it has been hard to kick start again. This wonderful spring weather is helping though. I started going for little walks after dinner with my two daughters, but that won't amount to much serious exercise as one is only 4 years old. So I have been shooting baskets at the park now and again over the winter. I need to get serious about my cardio again though. Hopefully these little evening walks with my daughters will inspire me to get back on my 4 and 5 mile jaunts that I was doing last Nov and Dec. Joining the local gym and finding time to get there everyday just isn't feasible right now.
Hi everyone! I'm usually a lurker on the boards but try to post when I can. This board always seems pretty quiet though.
As far as exercise - I go to the gym 5-6 times a week actually. I get up and go first thing in the morning while my husband and son are sleeping. I'm there for an hour or so. I start with cardio (whether it's the bike or ellptical) and I do 30 minutes. Then I do 30 minutes of strength training. I'm thinking I need a new routine so I'm meeting with the exercise phsiologist (sp?) next week and see what he says. I'll post an update then so you can all see what ideas he has for me.
I do notice that I have muscles now though. I had my husband look at my side because it felt funny when you touch it. He said "it's a muscle honey". I felt dumb then. But it's nice to see some muscle some through though.
