Weight loss slow
Hi everyone, I am new here and was just wondering, what is considered slow weight loss, the P.A. told me that I am losing to slow, I weighed in at 311lbs the day of surgery and as of today, I weighed in at 240lbs. I have been stressing out, she said I was way behind what they would like to see, I don't have any trouble with foods, other than, I forget to eat, and it is hard to eat all that protein I get in about 60 to 70 grams a day, I don't eat any white foods at all, and hardly any carbs, so I don't know how to speed things up, I am scared too, she told me that after 6 months I will stop losing, and the malabsorbtion will stop, and I will not lose anymore, so I am confused here, I eat veggies, and proteins, what else do I need? I am losing my hair by the hand full, and feel like a mess, and stressed, can anyone help please, I would appreciate everyone's input. Thank you.
First of all, I have never, ever heard that weight loss stops at 6 months. I have always been told the majority of the loss is in the first 12-18 months. Throw that nonsense out the window!
You're doing great for 5 months out. Not super fast, but not at all slow either. The hair loss is really common. Some people use supplements, but it seems after 3-6 months the hair stops falling out regardless.
Keep on your nutritional plan, exercise, drink your water (that's HUGE deal), and try to relax.
I've lost about the same as you and started out heavier... My dr's told me i was right on target, though!
I started at 343, am now 270 and had surgery a week before you...
I definitely feel like I'm a slow loser, but it's pretty crappy for a medical professional to say that to you.
My dr's tried to be encouraging and told me I will have less nutritional deficiencies, less saggy skin, etc since my loss won't be as traumatizing to my body..
Thank You very much, I just have been stressing that I will not ever lose anymore weight, I think I am losing inches, my rings are very lose, ha ha, that is cool, my regular doctor told me today that slow is good, less sagging skin, and all my labs are very good, so I am going to stop going to the gastric P.A. she is too stressful for me, but thank you for responding.
I guess every doctor is different, but mine was really pleased with my progress at my most recent appointment. I was about 325 on surgery day and now am at 249. I am always comparing to other people, and my loss seems pretty close to average. I'm interested in what other people have to say on the topic, but I think there are so many factors that affect how quickly you lose.
First of all that was highly insensitive of the PA to mention to you...
At last weigh in before surgery I weighed in at 295 and since surgery I am down to 231lbs. My PA advised that I could lose more if I tried to get more excercise in however I am at about average on the expectation. I had stopped working out since Christmas and have only recently begun again. I see a bigger difference now that i am working out a bit more... I lost 4lbs in just 1 week by working out 4days out of 7. However I am quite happy with my weight loss, although I am starting to see sagging skin (mainly in my arms) I have seen less of it in my stomach which is what i am seriously concerned about. True my chest also is sagging a bit now, but whatever I can live with it especially with some good supportive bra's .
I think you are doing fine... and you definitly need a new person to follow you threw this. You need someone who can balance out encouraging you without putting you down.
As for stopping to lose at 6months... BOLOGNA! My PA said that at 6months I will slow down a bit on the weight loss, that if I am not excercising regularly by then it will be a bit harder to lose... hence me trying to get into a routine before that 6month mark... at 1year we should see a slow down again and at 18months to 2years I will finally be like everyone else out there.
So again, he encouraged me to work out more.... walk more, do small things and build on that so that i can get the maximum at the beginning before I start to hit those small milestones whereI will slow down but so far I'm doing good... I just have to keep at it.... and i think you are doing great as well.
Eat. You'll jump start your metabolism. You will have starts and stops to weight loss for 2 years. I lay off veggies, and I like a glass of whiskey over ice - I sleep better, just don't do it is you are driving - 'cuz you'll get **** faced fast!
You are doing great - weight loss is not fast, and not steady, but it will happen. Boost your activity, buy a pedometer, and walk around with it for a week, get to know what you do daily, and then up your output.
You'll be fine, and congratulations!
I think that you are doing just fine I am going through a slow right know it seem like it took me for ever lose this last five pounds (don't get me wrong I have a lot more to go) I think that you need a PA who id going to be helpful to you and not put you down if there is something that you are doing wrong (and there is not) then she needs to be more helpful and give you ideas and suport keep your head up you are doing great

Hi Kelly,
I think you are doing great!!!!! You have accomplished a weight loss of over 70lbs in less than 6 months. Wow, when have you ever lost that much weight in this short of time. I know I haven't. Be proud of yourself......as far as your PA is concerned he/she is not very professional because weight loss does not stop at 6 months. Thats a bunch of rubbish........ I have a hard time eating because I'm not hungry but I make sure I keep myself eating at least every 5 hrs which for me works well. Yes, I agree it is hard to get all the protein needed so I supplement with Isopure Whey protien. There is 25gms in one scoop which I usually mix two scoops with 8oz skim milk and a yummy 50 grams of protien in one shake.......
I didn't loose any hair, but I do know that exteme stress and protien intake can have a great impact on hair loss.....make sure you are taking your B vitamins as well as protien......keep us posted on your progress and you are doing a great job.......pat yourself on the back.........
