Are you still sipping your fluids?

Hello September members, I was just wondering about the fluids, Are you still sipping or do you drink with a normal swallow. I try to sip, but sometimes I am so thirsty I drink and swallow and feel a little discomfort at my pouch. Do you think that would result in stretching it? I would surely appreciate everyone's thoughts on this.

Hi Camille, I find myself drinking more than sipping as well. I don't think it will streach the pouch as the water will exit fairly quickly and it is not like we are drinking a huge amount in one gulp. Shelley

From my understanding, fluids will not stretch your pouch because it doesn't stay in your pouch to do any damage. I sometimes forget to sip and will take a big mouthful, if I catch myself, I try to only swallow half of it, holding the other half in my mouth (gross, I know). If I forget and just swallow my pouch reminds me in a not so nice way. I am actually having a more difficult time getting in my fluids than my protein. I hate the taste of plain water, crystal light (or the wal-mart version). My doctor said to keep switching that I will find something that works. I am now drinking Aqua Cal but only like (somewhat) the taste of the grape flavor. It has been really difficult and I am constantly fighting having chapped lips.

Hi Carol You know Hawaiian Punch has a suger free version similar to Crystal Light and it's very good. It's only .99 cents in Walgreens. Kool Aid also has a sugar free version that is good too. I actually like the Cherry Limeade by Walmart really tasty. Good luck with those fluids girl !!!

Thanks for the suggestion. I am going to Wal-Mart soon and I'll be sure to check that out.

I, too, had a difficult time getting the water down. The only thing that worked for me was to simply add a slice of lemon or a squirt of lemon juice to the water. Last week, I was finally able to drink the water plain again.

I think that winter and the colder weather is affecting our thirst, thus making it more difficult to get our 64oz of water in a day. I'm averaging about 32 to 48ozs a day now, not counting the other liquids I am drinking, coffee, non-fat milk, etc. But I also have noticed the dry skin and chapped lips. Can't wait for the warm weather again. I am FREEZING this winter.

I With my fluids I find myself drinking more than sipping.... however before surgery I would gulp down liquids, not anymore.... I tried that once, wasn't thinking, and paid for it.. my pouch made it crystal clear - Don't do that again! I can drink normally, but can't take big drinks/gulps...
