Hello, I had Bypass on Sept 10th. Doing pretty good getting in the proteins and fluids. Has anyone had problems with constipation? Now that I'm on solids I'm having some problems going.

I had terrible constipation when I first went on solids. I sometimes drink a tea called Smooth Move by Traditional Medicinals, I got it at the grocery store. But I also take Magnesium everyday. That seems to really help. Because it was pretty bad before. I had surgery the same day. Hope you are doing good other wise. Cindy

I have constipation almost all the time since I went on solid. I've been having a activia yogurt that has been helping

I had small problems. I used over-the-counter product & it worked fine. Doctor said to increase my water intake. This is what I do now whenever I have a problem & it works. I make a protein shake (or 2) & add 1/2 tray or more of ice. Good luck! Islander

When I first had surgery, while in the hospital, I had a horrible case of diarrhea, probably from the barium to test for leaks. That was the last time I've had diarrhea. I went the complete opposite and was constipated for weeks. As soon as I would finally go, within a few days it was back again. When my doctor cleared me to eat salads, I have been much better. So I have been pretty regular now and at least don't walk around with the feeling that I have to go, but couldn't. I hope you find something that works for you. You can try increasing your fluids, watch the amount of cheese and exercise.

I had a problem with constipation, until my doctor told me to start eating some veggies and increase my protein shakes to compensate for less protein in my diet. That has helped now I am pretty regularly going every other day.

They are keeping me on senekot for the next two months until I get more regular.

My surgeon recommends using Mirilax. It used to be a prrescription but now it is over-the-counter. It is a powder that dissolves in any liquid. It is safe to take every day and helps regulate your bowels. My sister had a lot of problems initially with constipation too. Now she is over a year out, and things have seemed to become normal. Good luck. Lisa
