I am now about 5 weeks out. Everytime I eat anything I get the spit ups for a better word. It's like if I burp water comes up and my stomach pains. Does anyone else have this?

I'm 6 weeks out from RNY. Am having the same problem. Went to my regular Dr. today for a checkup - she reminded me that each bite has tobe chewed 30 times. Sometimes I forget when I first start eating, and eat 2-3 bites quickly, and then get the slimes. Not fun. I seem to be able to tolerate cheerios, soup, and protein drinks, but can't tolerate ground chicken, flaked tuna, etc. I am supposed to go on regular foods next week, but don't think I'm ready yet. My hints for you are: don't drink for 1/2 hour before or after you eat, and chew, chew, chew.

Thanks at least I am not alone, I am going to go back on liquids for a bit and see how that goes, maybe I will try more solid foods in a week or two.

Hi, I couldn't eat either, but, I didn't throw up. I had the opposite problem. I had constant diarrhea. It turns out that I bacame lactose intolerant and all I was eating was dairy products. I tried lactose chewable tablets and feel better. If you are throwing up maybe you are eating too much, too fast, or the wrong thing. Take it easy. Most likely if you are like me I rushed through my meals all of my life, but now its time to take it slowly. There is no more hurry to eat. My friend whom I shared a hospital room with kept throwing up and it turns out she had a cold or allergy, and all of the mucus was making her throw up. There are several reasons why you could be throwing up. It is not an easy surgery to go through. Don't be discouraged things will happen at their own course. Everyone moves along at different paces. I was getting frustrated at first because I just wanted to get to more normal eating. I am no longer in a hurry. If I am not ready yet than I am not ready yet. Keep your chin up and try logging in everything you are eating at what time you are eating them and how long after eating you are throwing up. Maybe you will get a better knowledge of what is making you feel that way. My surgery date was 9/11/07 and I lost almost 30 lbs. since then. I am moving along very slowly with the food also. I hope you are feeling better soon. Yours truly, Brenda from NJ

I had my surgery on 9/10 & have started to introduce some solids. I seem to be getting sick a lot. My dr has said if you get sick go back to semi-solids for 48 hrs before trying something new again. Guess I'm back to mashed potatoes and protein shakes for a while.

Have you tried eliminating milk. Some people become lactose intolerant once they have surgery.

Did you ask your surgeon if it's possible that you have developed a stricture? It's a narrowing of the opening of your stomach do to scar tissue. I was unable to eat anything for a while and my surgeon decided that it might be a stricture. He did an endoscopy and a dilitation (stretching) at the same time because I had, in fact, developed a stricture. Since then everything seems to go down much better. It's worth asking your surgeon. I know that I was getting weaker and weaker the longer I couldn't eat. I felt so much better by the next day and wondered to myself why I didn't call my doctor sooner. Good luck and keep us informed. Hugs, Lisa

I myself have similar problems.I had surgery on 9/10 and have had very little luck eating chicken, beef generally anything that i used to.Ive resorted to baked potatoes, yogert, cheese and peanut butter.I also eat lite cream cheese on reduced fat crackers.Yesterday i actually ate sliced deli turkey and cheese on crackers and didnt feel sick or throw up,although i had to eat even more slowly than usual. My biggest problem is not drinking and eating for i find these days i'd rather drink than eat. Also since surgery my scense of taste has changed dramatically...am i alone?I just have a hard time figuring out how i survive and feel good on no more than i eat.

Don't feel bad I am right there with you. I can not tolerate any meat at all. I am living on cream soups with melted cheese added to get the protein up. I keep trying meat like last night I tried pork chop and up it came, I chew the heck out of it and then only eat like an ounce and within a few minutes up it comes. The other thing I can eat is yogurt and porrigde. Not much of a menu is it. How is your weight lose coming mine has slowed I think it is the lack of protein.
